Our community supports us in the most amazing ways!💙
Congratulations to Chef Jared and Company on their one year anniversary! Please stop in this Friday, September 4, for a delicious way to support the Lakeshore Children's Advocacy Center.

This community has supported Chef Jared & Company in ways we never could have imagined when we opened our doors a year ago.

So when we started talking about how to celebrate our first 365 days, we kept coming back to one question:

How do we say thank you? So….

This Friday, September 4, for every guest we serve, Chef Jared & Company will donate $1 to Lakeshore Children's Advocacy Center.

We’re not asking you to round up your check.

We’re not asking you to give anything extra.

Just come eat.

Have breakfast with us. Bring a friend for lunch. Celebrate our first birthday around the table.

We’ll count the guests. We’ll make the donation.

The more people who join us, the more we’re able to give back.

Manistee gave us an incredible first 365 days.

We can’t think of a better way to start the next 365.

Biking is a great way to get active and enjoy the outdoors. Before any two-wheeled fun, however, it is important to make sure that children have a helmet that fits — and to make sure they wear it.

Follow the “Eyes, Ears, Mouth” rule to ensure your child’s helmet fits properly:

Eyes: The helmet should sit level on the head and rest low, about 1 to 2 finger widths above the eyebrows.

Ears: The side straps should form a perfect "V" shape just under the earlobes. They should lay flat against the face to keep the helmet firmly in place.

Mouth: The strap must be securely buckled under the chin. You should only be able to fit 1 to 2 fingers between the strap and the chin. When your child opens their mouth, the helmet should pull down against the top of their head.

When we show kids what safe riding looks like and support them in making safe choices, we help create safer experiences for everyone.

Home should be a safe, nurturing place where young children can learn, play, and grow. Taking small steps to create that kind of environment helps families build Protective Factors — the everyday strengths that help families stay strong — and supports the HOPE framework, which focuses on creating positive, healthy experiences for children.

Here are a few simple ways to create a safer, more supportive home environment:
- Anchor furniture
- Secure cabinets
- Cover electrical outlets
- Store medications and cleaning products safely

These small actions help create safe spaces for children and support the positive experiences that help families thrive.

A child abuse forensic interview can happen almost anywhere. The child's home. A sheriff's office. A hospital. A school hallway.

So WHY should it happen at a Children’s Advocacy Center instead?

Because disclosing abuse is one of the hardest things a child will ever do. It takes courage and trust, and that courage grows when a child feels safe, supported, and surrounded by people who care.

It also takes skill. The forensic interviewers at the Lakeshore CAC are trained to ask questions in a way that's developmentally appropriate and non-leading, so a child's own words can be heard clearly and used to protect them.

CACs were built to help children feel safe, protected, and supported.
