π Important Announcement from the Manito Aquatic Center π
It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce the 2026 pool season has come to an abrupt end.
This news has come as a complete shock to our team, and it is one of the hardest announcements we have ever had to make.
Over the past several days, we have worked diligently with the Illinois Department of Public Health inspectors and a local engineer in every effort to keep our pool open. Unfortunately, we learned that required work from the 2025 season was never completed, and our drain covers have expired. Because of state regulations, the replacement process requires engineering approval, permits, inspections, and several months to complete. As much as we wish there were another option, our hands are tied.
We do not know why this process was not completed last year, but we have already begun the necessary steps to ensure everything is in place for the 2027 season.
While we are thankful to be planning ahead, it does not lessen the heartbreak we feel for this season. Our team poured their hearts into making 2026 the best season the Manito Aquatic Center has ever had. Thanks to all of you, we experienced incredible support, record attendance, and so many unforgettable memories. This is not how we wanted our season to end.
Over the coming days, we will begin contacting families with scheduled pool rentals to process refunds. We are also working closely with the Park Board to determine how swim passes and other remaining season matters will be handled. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we work through these next steps. We are still processing this ourselves and want to make thoughtful decisions for everyone involved.
We will continue to update the public as soon as we have more information. A meeting with our team is scheduled for Saturday morning, and we will share any updates afterward.
On a personal note, my heart is brokenβfor the children and young adults who counted on these summer jobs, for the families whose traditions were cut short, and for every person who found joy at our pool. The Manito Aquatic Center has always been more than just a public swimming pool. It has been a place where friendships were made, laughter echoed across the water, children built confidence, and our community came together.
Thank you for the overwhelming love, encouragement, and support you have shown us this season. We promise to do everything we can to come back stronger in 2027.
Until then, thank you for being part of our pool family. π
