Adopt a Cistern? Not a ‘thing’ , yet! But…. You can help us - help you!!! If our residents can clear access and visibility to our Crystal Park fire cisterns, we’ll do our part to keep them filled and in ready status!
And… under the newly adopted International Fire Code, Cisterns will be treated like Fire Hydrants!!! Blocking access, and parking in front of, or over our cisterns will result in tickets issued by the El Paso County Sheriff!!!

A huge shout out to our friends and comrades in the fire service at Ellicott Fire Department!!! A gratuitous donation of a utility vehicle that was excess too their needs was a major upgrade for CPFD! Our newly commissioned ‘950’ will increase our Crystal Park capabilities!! Transport to training, moving needed response equipment and Command and Control are all better today!!! Thank You Ellicott!!! Ellicott Fire Protection District

Crystal Park….. we are still in Stage II Fire Restrictions! Even though the 4th of July holiday is over… our risk of fire is not. Some additional restrictions are outlined in the CPHOA rules/regulations.

All hands on deck!!! Some of our hardest working volunteers helped do some cistern maintenance today!! With CP Forestry work last week on clearing trees and shrubs off some of our key cisterns, CPFD members (senior and junior) Topped off the tanks! Filling vital water to the brim!
Our only fire fighting water sources in Crystal Park are our lake pump in upper park, and our network of cisterns throughout our community. Any help from the residents to keep these cisterns accessible, free of obstructions, and blocking access by parked vehicles will help protect all of us!! Treat these as our CP fire hydrants!!

Two Small Fires: Kineo and St. Peter’s Fires - CPFD is aware of and monitoring two small fires approximately 3 miles south of Crystal Park, west and north of Cheyenne Mountain. Both fires are less than an acre in size and US National Forest Service Firefighters are on scene. Initially both were spotted by a National Boise Helitak helicopter working Aspen View fire. Both fires are assessed to be started by lightning strikes last night and smoldered into visible smoke this morning.
There is no threat to Crystal Park and we are in touch with both the USFS and CSFD working in support.

Our friends from Denver were standing watch over Bishop’s Castle yesterday. The active fire line is right on it today. Here’s hoping it’s protected!!!

Pulling this comment up from a resident's post in response to a question on Air Quality from the Aspen Fire. Hopefully helps predict when to expect Plume strength and timing ---This is a predictable 'Fire Micro-Climate effect'. Fires calm down or 'sit down' at night as the temperatures cool through the evening hours. Winds settle and the fire doesn't move much. In the early morning there is a natural inversion layer and the local winds/clouds are calm, and the layer keeps the little amount of smoke from a sitting fire low to the ground and not moving. However, when the ground begins to warm the thermals start to heat up and rise, they break the inversion and the winds become aggressive and the fire starts to rage again. Usually fire intensity picks up in the late morning or early afternoon. So you can predict the Smoke plumes to become large after lunch. This is similar effect to Thunderstorms happening after lunch and not in the middle of the night or early morning. Manitou Springs Fire Department Crystal Park Community, Manitou Springs, CO

The Smoke Plume from the Aspen Acre fire, Southwest of Pueblo, is low, dense and currently floating over Crystal Park. Heavy smell of smoke and low visibility is currently being experienced (4:15pm Tuesday, 30 June). No need to call 911, UNLESS you see a localized source of smoke within CP. CPFD continues to monitor the Aspen acres fire. It is over 50 miles away from our location and there is no threat to our community other than the air quality issue we are currently experiencing.
