Come say hi to Santa on Christmas Eve at Memorial Park here in Manitou! This year will be a little different than our normal Santa at the town clock event, but Santa still wants to make sure he gets to see everyone this year in a safe way.
Beginning at 6pm on Christmas Eve, we will have a drive through visit event on El Paso Blvd in front of Memorial Park. Our firefighters will be present with goodie bags from Santa, and Santa will be giving out socially distanced Christmas greetings from his special chair. We look forward to seeing you all!

Fire restrictions for Manitou Springs reduced to Stage 1.
While Colorado and other western states are still experiencing wildland fires, seasonal changes and recent snowfall have improved resource availability around the region as most locally deployed fire personnel and apparatus have returned home. Additionally, vegetation is slowly becoming dormant and relative humidity is somewhat higher, making risk of large fires somewhat less. Unfortunately, local long-range weather forecasts do not include much moisture. Predictions indicate brief periods of moisture followed by long periods of dry weather with higher than normal temperatures. Because of this it is important to remember that the potential for wildfires still exist.

Our Public Works department is performing an emergency water main repair in the Midland and Ruxton Area. The break appears to be on a large water main, and the volume of water coming out is substantial. This will result in a water disruption in the nearby areas and fire crews inspecting nearby structures.

Good news for Manitou... the #InclineFire is 100% contained!
The Incline Fire, which sparked on Thursday afternoon, is 100% contained as of Sunday evening. The fire is estimated to be around one acre in size, and is not believed to have burned the actual Barr Trail.

To protect the quality of life of our community, and due to the wildfires that many regions are experiencing, our Fire Chief has ordered Stage 2 Fire Restrictions. This results in an Open Burning Ban that prohibits the use of any outside fire, an Outdoor Smoking Ban, a Fireworks Ban, and a Dangerous Equipment Ban that prohibits the use of equipment that emits sparks and/or flames without a fire extinguisher readily available.

Fireworks are a standard during the 4th of July, but during these very dry times, it is our community’s utmost responsibility to protect their neighbors. Given that we are under fire restrictions, fireworks pose a greater threat to our community. Celebrate the 4th of July, but please be safe and respectful.

There’s currently smoke in the Manitou area due to wildland fires in Durango and Arizona. Please do not call 911 unless flames or a column of smoke is visible.

It may have been mostly online, but the 69th Annual MSVFD Awards Banquet was a great evening to recognize the work of many of our dedicated volunteers and staff, including Firefighter of the Year Amanda Malinaric!
We love a good howl, but pairing it with fireworks isn't a great idea. Not only is it illegal, but the local fire danger is high. Using fireworks puts your neighbors at risk and ties up emergency responders.

In order to focus fire department efforts on responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Forsett has ordered Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for the City of Manitou Springs, effective immediately. The City’s number one priority is to protect its community, visitors, and employees. The City of Manitou Springs will close access to the Incline and the Metro shuttle to the Incline until further notice.
To reduce the transmission of COVID-19, the City will close the Incline as there are not suitable sanitization options available to those who visit the Incline. Additionally, the first responders who address emergencies on the incline are put into a high risk situation.
Due to the closure of the Incline, the Metro shuttle that visits the Incline will also be closed until further notice.
The Incline is an attraction that averages 1,000 visitors a day, and due to the current state of emergency, the City of Manitou Springs has found it in the best interest of the public, to close the Incline and the shuttle to the Incline until further notice.

• In an effort to protect you, the City of Manitou Springs Fire Department wants to let you know that we have taken some steps to limit contact with first responders. Our goal is to provide you the latest information and manage expectations.
• The City of Manitou Springs Fire Department will not allow public visits.
• Please do not go directly to the Fire Station if you feel you need medical attention. In the event of a life or death emergency, you should call 911.
• If you have any health concerns, your first call should be to your primary care physician or a Telehealth service. Do not show up at a Fire Station and expect to be let inside with minor cold-type symptoms. Do not go directly to the Emergency Room for nonemergency conditions.

Manitou Springs firefighters visited every property parcel in the city and surveyed the wildfire risk rating from low to extreme. Using this data, MSFD created a map that provides a risk rating by color for each property. It’s our hope that you will use this data to not only make efforts on your own property to become fire adaptive, but use the data to start dialog among neighbors and neighborhoods on ways to make our community safer.

Barr Trail rescue completed today, with patient carry out assistance from @epcsar.
As they say, “the cold never bothered me anyway.” Training on hydrants, even in a bit of ice and snow.
At approximately 0500 today, MSFD sent Engine 1010 and a crew to assist Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Park Fire Department for a fully involved structure fire.
Firefighters in Green Mountain Falls are investigating an early morning house fire that caused heavy damage to the structure.
Always a good time at the Christmas Parade in Manitou, particularly when Santa is riding your engine.
