At the Japanese YWCA in San Francisco, founded in 1932, visionary Issei women created a home for community care that later supported organizing for racial justice and LGBTQ+ rights. Its history connects to leaders like Bayard Rustin, whose courage as a civil rights strategist and openly gay man helped move the nation closer to justice.

Today, we celebrate Frida Kahlo as part of Pride Month. An iconic artist and bisexual woman, Frida challenged gender norms and expressed her authentic self through her powerful artwork. Her legacy inspires us to embrace our identity and celebrate love in all its forms. Happy Pride Month!

This is our 9th annual GMDC Celebrate Juneteenth event and we are beyond excited for another amazing day of music, culture, history, food, supporting our beautiful community, and so much more. You don't want to miss this!

Did you know that Civil Rights Activist Pauli Murray stayed at YWCA Harlem when she was attending Hunter College? She was a pivotal figure for racial and social justice that led the YWCA movement to what it is today. This month we honor her legacy and contributions to our society and are proud to have played a small role in her journey.
