A white female Golden Retriever/Lab was lost late Saturday evening. She was found at Courtyard by Marriott. She has a pink harness. The dog is currently at the City of Mankato Impound located at 903 Mound Avenue (inside Sibley Park).

The City of Mankato is piloting Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPI) at 14 signalized intersections to help make pedestrians more visible and crossing the street safer.

The pilot locations were selected to prioritize areas with high pedestrian activity, including schools and downtown, and represent approximately 25% of the City’s signalized intersections.

What is a Leading Pedestrian Interval?

LPIs give pedestrians a 3 to 7 second head start to enter a marked crosswalk before vehicles receive a green light. This allows pedestrians to begin crossing while turning vehicles are still stopped. The extra time helps pedestrians establish their presence in the crosswalk before vehicles are allowed to turn.

Why Are We Using LPIs?

LPIs are one tool the City of Mankato is using to improve safety and accessibility for everyone using Mankato's streets.

They can help:
- Make pedestrians more visible to drivers
- Reduce conflicts between pedestrians and turning vehicles
- Increase the likelihood that drivers yield to pedestrians
- Give people who need more time a safer opportunity to begin crossing

The City of Mankato will provide opportunities for the community to share feedback as the pilot progresses.

If you notice an issue, such as a pedestrian push button that isn't working, a pedestrian signal display that is difficult to see, or another traffic signal problem, report it to 311.

This week's City Council Recap is all about upcoming traffic updates.

City Manager, Susan Arntz, shares changes coming to Hope St. and Adams St., Technology Dr., and an intersection near Roosevelt Elementary. There are a couple other projets not covered, found in the link below.

Kern Bridge is placed in its new home!

This morning crews from Redstone Construction lifted the 153 year old bridge and placed it to span from Sibley Park to Land of Memories Park. Once work is completed, this will give pedestrians access to both parks, expanding bike trails - creating a new connection without the use of Highway 169.

Beginning Tuesday, September 8, North Riverfront Drive between East Main Street and Plum Street, will close for approximately three weeks while the bridge girders are sandblasted and painted. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Traffic will be detoured to Plum Street, 2nd Street, and Main Street. Motorists should expect brief delays in the area. For project information, and to watch live construction progress, visit the MnDOT website: https://www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/vetsbridge/
