We get to all sorts of fun at the farm. Yesterday one of our volunteers, Miles, found a toad! He was raking out an area and thankfully saw the toad move and was able to confirm that the little creature was ok. We carefully put the toad in another area that we were not working in. If you've thought about volunteering at the farm this year, you're in luck! The June volunteer opportunities were just uploaded.

Side note: Miles came to the farm by way of United Way's Week of Action as an NHS member. There are all sorts of opportunities for individuals AND groups to volunteer at the farm. If interested in learning more: https://www.livingearthcentermn.org/get-involved/volunteer.html

Hello friends of the farm! Farm Manager Sky here. I'm happy to report that the Great Compost Blitz of 2026 has concluded!

Shakopee Mdewankanton Sioux Community donated a load of compost to us and even though their driver Dylan got stuck for a while at the farm, he did an AMAZING job backing right into the gate with that big old semi and trailer. We moved that 30 yards around the farm in 4 days! Then Kurt delivered another load to us from a different composting facility, again displaying superb backing skills with another semi and trailer!

Special thanks goes to our amazing volunteers, including 2 groups from ADM who even donated new tools to the farm! We appreciate you!

Here are the numbers:

🌱 60 cubic yards of compost delivered to the farm

🌱 45 cubic yards went straight to the farm beds

🌱 15 cubic yards were for the Mankato Zero Waste compost event

🌱 1 volunteer group from Maverick Adventures at Minnesota State University, Mankato

🌱 2 volunteer groups from ADM

🌱 And lots of amazing individual volunteers, some who came back multiple days!

🌱 ALL MOVED IN 10 DAYS.

Let me say that again. We moved 60 cubic yards (2 semi trailers full) of compost in 10 days.

This was not something I could have done on my own. As it stands my body hurts, but I'm looking forward to all those muscles I've been working on through this adventure. 💪

Volunteers really make the farm what it is, and I could not be more grateful for the support from the community in feeding those who need it most. We haven't started donating fresh produce yet, but it is coming!

The farm is managed by Living Earth Center. We are currently in our Give to Grow Fundraising Campaign and are always in need of volunteers. So whether you can help us out financially through a donation or physically as a farm volunteer, there are all sorts of ways to get involved with feeding the community.

Hey friends of the farm! Farm Manager Sky here. This year I was able to spend part of Earth Day at the farm with volunteers. It was hot but windy, so it worked well for us. We planted bunching onions, watered the peas we planted last week, set up buckets to catch rain since the water is not turned on out there yet, reseeded the cilantro patch, and cleaned up the few remaining plants from last year that hadn't been pulled yet.

Some volunteers came for an hour, others came for a couple hours. Volunteer hours are set in one hour increments this year so that you can have more flexibility on that. We had a mixture of returning volunteers and new ones and it was truly wonderful seeing people coming from different places for one common cause.
