On Sunday, July 26th at 02:05, the Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department and mutual aid companies were dispatched by Madison County 911 Center for a reported deck on fire on Bette Circle. Chittenango Police arrived on scene to find a house with heavy fire from behind the residence.

Chittenango Chiefs arrived shortly thereafter, confirming a two-story type-5 residential house with heavy fire on the Charlie-Delta corner and exposures to another residence. A Working Structure Fire was then declared by command.

Fayetteville Ladder 20 arrived first with Chittenango Ladder 687 close behind. Both trucks immediately deployed hand lines to extinguish the fire while setting up their aerial ladders and connecting supply lines to a fire hydrant located across the street.

Crews from North Chittenango, Bridgeport, and Manlius soon arrived and assisted extinguishing the fire, checking for extension, overhauling, and protecting the residents’ belongings. Canastota, initially called to standby on Chittenango’s floor, was moved up to the scene for additional manpower. Cazenovia was then activated to standby at Chittenango.

At 02:36, the fire was declared under control as crews continued to extinguish hotspots, overhaul the burned contents, and began picking up equipment. At 04:36, all units returned to service and command was terminated.

The Chittenango Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to our mutual aid including but limited to:

Happy 250th Birthday America!

The Manlius Fire Department Members and their families were delighted to celebrate with the community at the Village of Manlius 4th of July Parade this momentous occasion while always remembering all those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and independence.

There are NO plans to cancel the parade or the festivities at the amphitheater afterward unless there is thunder and lightning or a heavy downpour that doesn’t pass through quickly. We’re optimistic it will clear up right around the start time of the parade!

Stay cool and hydrated!

🌡️ HEAT WARNING: Stay Safe During Extreme Temperatures 🚑

NAVAC Ambulance is reminding everyone to take extra precautions during this period of extreme heat. High temperatures can quickly become dangerous, especially for older adults, young children, people with chronic medical conditions, and those who work or exercise outdoors.

☀️ Stay safe by remembering to:
💧 Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
🧴 Use sunscreen and take frequent breaks if you're outside.
🚗 Never leave children, older adults, or pets in a parked vehicle—even for a minute.
👀 Check on family members, neighbors, and friends who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

⚠️ Know the warning signs of heat-related illness:

Heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, nausea, or muscle cramps may be signs of heat exhaustion.
Confusion, loss of consciousness, hot or dry skin, or a body temperature above 103°F may indicate heat stroke, which is a life-threatening emergency.

If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move them to a cooler area while waiting for emergency responders.

Together, we can help keep our community safe. Please share this message so others can stay informed.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe.

During the summer months, trauma incidents often increase, creating a greater demand for blood products. A single blood donation can help save the lives of patients facing serious injuries, surgeries, cancer treatments, and other medical emergencies.

Your donation could be the reason someone gets a second chance.

❤️ Be a hero. Roll up your sleeve. Save a life.

📅 Date: July 1
🩸 Donate blood and help ensure it’s there when someone needs it most.
