BISMARCK – Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has activated the Hay Hotline, as parts of the state are experiencing abnormally dry or moderate to severe drought conditions.

This is so true!! Emergency Management is a daily adventure. Some days are working on the computer all day, some are out and about building partnerships, other days are responding to emergencies. Each day is necessary. Glad I am able to do this job for Dunn County!

If you ask an emergency manager what they do, the answer will probably depend on the day.

One day might be spent updating emergency plans. Another might involve coordinating with community partners, leading an exercise, supporting a special event, reviewing grant applications, or helping an organization prepare for a new risk.

The profession is always changing, requiring emergency managers to adapt, coordinate, and solve problems in a wide range of situations. No two days look the same because every community and organization is different.

Governor Kelly Armstrong has proclaimed August as Emergency Management Awareness Month in recognition of the often-unnoticed work emergency managers do every day to keep North Dakotans safe. Local, tribal and state emergency managers coordinate preparedness, prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery efforts across communities, ensuring that communities are ready when disaster strikes.

“We’re usually behind the scenes of public safety – the people you don’t know you need until you really need us,” says Angela Herda, President of the North Dakota Emergency Management Association. “I’m so proud to work alongside and represent the Emergency Managers we have here in North Dakota, answering calls at 3:00AM for train derailments and writing grants on a Friday afternoon to help a fire station replace their water tender. We might be unseen, but the impact is felt.”

Dunn County Commission approves update in fire restriction to NOT ALLOW garbage pits or large piles of debris at ANY level of the ND Fire Danger index.

Garbage pits can reignite days, weeks, even months after they have been burned. With red flag warnings in our future there is a high chance that pits could reignite. Please monitor your pits regularly if you have burned them in the last year. Best practice is to cover with dirt after burning to prevent reignition.

Critical fire weather conditions are expected Thursday across southwest and parts of northwest North Dakota. Follow local burn restrictions, as any fire that ignite may spread rapidly.

**SAFETY ALERT**

City of Dodge is under a DO NOT USE WATER ADVISORY!

The water supply in Dodge has been compromised due to a water line break. Backflow may have occurred due to this loss of pressure and contaminants, or disease-causing organisms may have entered the distribution system.

City of Dodge employees are working diligently to address the situation. There is bottled water available at city shop for residents who are unable to use their water.

Updates will be made as soon as possible. The system must be flushed several times and then the water retested prior to allowing drinking. At this time, the hope is to have positive results some time on Saturday.

Dunn county commission approved the allowance of controlled burns (pits/piles of trees/etc.) when Rangeland Fire Index is Low or Moderate in today's commission meeting. ALL controlled burns MUST follow controlled burn procedure.

Local fire chiefs and emergency management will continue to monitor conditions and may request the restriction be reinstated if conditions become drier.
