🚨 Wildfire Update – Dare County Mainland 🚨

State and federal fire crews are actively responding to a wildfire on the Dare County mainland known as the East Tower Fire. The fire began Wednesday in a remote area of the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge near the Dare County military bombing range and Stumpy Point.

The fire has currently burned approximately 1,200 acres. Fire suppression efforts are underway with ground personnel and aviation resources operating out of the Dare County Regional Airport.

Residents across Roanoke Island and the northern Outer Banks may notice smoke drifting into the area as the fire continues to burn.

At this time:
• No structures are threatened
• Crews from state and federal agencies are actively working to contain the fire
• The cause of the fire has not yet been released by authorities

Please remain aware of smoky conditions, especially if you have respiratory sensitivities, and continue to follow updates from local officials.

Last night, the Manns Harbor Women’s Club hosted the annual Firemen’s Dinner — a wonderful evening filled with delicious food, laughter, and community spirit. The event celebrated the dedication and hard work of our local firefighters, recognizing their service and commitment to keeping our community safe.

Award Recipients:

Officer of the Year: Brian Sikes (not present)
Firefighter of the Year: Danny Burdette
Rookie of the Year: Bishop Bayliss
50 Years of Service Award: Clyde Gard

In addition to the awards, the Manns Harbor Volunteer Fire Department proudly made a contribution to the Manns Harbor Women’s Club Scholarship Fund, supporting educational opportunities for local students.

Congratulations to all the honorees, and a heartfelt thank-you to the Manns Harbor Women’s Club for organizing such a memorable evening.

🎄 Fire Department Christmas Parade & Brunswick Stew Fundraiser 🎄

Join the community for a festive day of holiday cheer and hometown spirit!

📅 Date: Sunday, December 21, 2025
🚒 Parade: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
🍲 Fundraiser: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

After the parade, warm up with Brunswick stew and cornbread — available by donation to support the Fire Department.

There will also be T-shirts and applications for sale, so stop by, grab a bowl, and show support for local heroes!

📍 Location: Fire Department Grounds
❤️ All proceeds benefit the Fire Department.
