It takes more than firefighters to keep a volunteer fire department moving forward, it takes neighbors who care about their community and are willing to lend their time, talents, and experience.

Manns Harbor Fire Department is looking for people who want to serve. Whether you’re interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter, helping maintain our apparatus and equipment, assisting with administrative work, supporting community outreach, or helping with fundraising and public education, there may be a place for you here.

You do not need to arrive with years of experience or a long list of certifications. Training and guidance are available. What matters most is being dependable, willing to learn, and committed to helping the people who call Manns Harbor and Mainland Dare County home.

Every volunteer brings something valuable to the table. If you have ever considered getting involved, we would be glad to talk with you about how your skills and availability could fit within our department.

Scan the QR code on the flyer, visit MakeMeAFirefighter.org, call us at (252) 423-1773, or email [email protected] to learn more.

Your community needs you—and there is more than one way to serve.

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Mainland Dare County today from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Heat index values between 110°F and 115°F are expected.

Help keep our community safe:

💧 Drink plenty of water.
🏠 Stay in air conditioning or shade whenever possible.
☀️ Limit strenuous outdoor activity.
👥 Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may need assistance.
🐾 Keep pets cool and never leave children or animals unattended in a vehicle.

🚒 MHFD Selected as a 2026 Firehouse Giving Fund Beneficiary 🚒

The Manns Harbor Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce a new partnership with Firehouse Boil Delivery that will make our department one of the beneficiaries of the OBX First Responder Giving Program Fund for 2026.

The charitable fund was created by David Sawin, co-founder of Firehouse Boil Delivery, and is administered by the Outer Banks Community Foundation. It provides grants to first responder agencies across Dare and Currituck counties for equipment, training, and other needs that support their lifesaving work.

Firehouse Boil Delivery’s commitment to first responders is personal. David’s father served as a firefighter for more than 30 years, inspiring the company to donate a portion of its proceeds to area fire departments and emergency response agencies. The fund has continued to grow through the generosity of Firehouse Boil’s loyal customers, turning every contribution into a direct investment in local public safety.

MHFD plans to use the funds received through this partnership toward the purchase of HURST Jaws of Life vehicle-extrication and rescue tools. This lifesaving equipment will improve our ability to safely and efficiently reach patients trapped in vehicles following serious crashes and other rescue emergencies.

This partnership extends beyond the grant program. Our department is also benefiting from David’s seafood-boil experience and expertise as we plan and conduct seafood boil fundraisers throughout the year. His guidance is helping our volunteers offer a great meal to the community while creating another sustainable way to raise funds for essential department equipment and operations.

The photos below are from our first seafood boil fundraiser, held during Manns Harbor Day. We are grateful to everyone who purchased a plate, volunteered, or otherwise helped make our first event a success. We look forward to bringing more of these fundraisers to the community in the future!

We sincerely thank David Sawin, the entire Firehouse Boil Delivery team, its customers, and the Outer Banks Community Foundation for supporting our volunteer firefighters and the Manns Harbor community.

When you support Firehouse Boil Delivery or contribute to the fund, you are helping place critical rescue equipment directly into the hands of the first responders who serve our Outer Banks communities.
