The Friends sponsor the very popular Mansfield Reads! and Mansfield Writes! programs. They support the Summer Reading program and Books for Babies. The Friends also fund the library's Wish List for items not covered by the budget and they contribute to long range commitments such as furniture, equipment and contruction. The Friends of the Library advocate public library service and publicize library programs and services.

Mission: The Friends of the Mansfield Public Library is a group of volunteers who actively support the library and its mission through fundraising, promotion and advocacy.

North Texas Giving Tuesday NOW is an emergency campaign to aid non-profits affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

Because the library has been closed we have lost our fundraising mechanisms for the very popular Summer Reading Program.

There is a large body of research demonstrating that summer learning loss, or "summer slide", can cause students to lose 2-3 months of learning. Reading over the summer helps prevent kids from falling behind in the new school year.

Last summer the library saw a 122% increase in participation. During this unprecedented time the need for engagement and learning will be even greater.

We know that non-profits on the front lines have been especially hard hit. The library is not front line – but the library is a LIFELINE for kids and their families in the summer.

Please help us help the library keep them reading.

To celebrate #NationalLibraryWeek please enjoy my Oakwood Elementary Librarian. Her name is Annyce McCann- unless you fell in love with her at 6 years old, spent every extra minute of your recess and free time in the library, dreamed of growing up to be just like her - with a dash of Beverly Cleary and Shel Silverstein tossed in - and, because of her mentorship, saw yourself as creative and smart. If you had that kind of relationship with this wonderful woman who typed up your book, T.BEAR’S TRIP TO MARS, processed it and gave it a spot on the shelf and a card in the card catalog - then - you could call her Mom McCann, like I did. Teachers and librarians shape minds and lives. I love you, Mom McCann. ♥️

North Texas Giving Day Tuesday NOW is an emergency campaign to aid non-profits affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Non-profits that aid our front line responders and families have been especially hard hit, but most non-profits are feeling the pinch of the crisis in some way. The Friends of the Mansfield Public Library relies on spring campaigns such as the Big Book Sale to fund the library's Summer Reading Programs. Those campaigns were cancelled due to the current crisis, leaving us without a fundraising method for our commitment to help fund Summer Reading. With the looming uncertainty regarding when the library will re-open our help is needed more than ever in order for the library to plan programming that will keep kids engaged in reading over the summer months. Your donation can have a big impact in the fight against the “summer slump” and will help keep kids reading.

Are you spring cleaning while you #StayHome? The Friends operate a year round used book sale to raise funds for library items not covered in the budget. We will be happy to take the books you are finished with off your hands! We are in need of fiction, non fiction and children’s books.
