🌳🇺🇸 A Living Legacy for the Next 250 Years 🇺🇸🌳

Today, the City of Mansfield proudly joined communities across Ohio in celebrating America 250-Ohio through the planting of a Heritage Tree at Liberty Park.

Mayor Jodie Perry - City of Mansfield, Ohio and Public Works Director Louis Andres joined City staff and community members for the ceremonial planting of a Swamp White Oak, a native Ohio species that symbolizes strength, longevity, and our shared commitment to future generations. The Heritage Trees: Planting History program is commemorating America's 250th anniversary by planting trees in all 88 Ohio counties.

Liberty Park was chosen for this special planting because of its historic significance, central location, and long-standing role as a gathering place for our community. The tree will serve as a lasting reminder of this milestone anniversary while providing beauty, shade, and environmental benefits for years to come.

As we celebrate our nation's past, we are also investing in Mansfield's future. We invite residents and visitors alike to stop by Liberty Park and watch this Heritage Tree grow as a living symbol of community, history, and hope.

Each fountain is equipped with LED lighting, allowing the park to showcase colors and seasonal displays throughout the year. Whether you're taking an evening stroll, enjoying time with family, or looking for fish activity, the illuminated fountains will provide a stunning new feature for the community to enjoy.

LINCOLN HIGHWAY BRIEF HISTORY

The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental road in the United States, established in 1913 to revolutionize automobile travel by creating a paved connection between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. This Transcontinental Route was dedicated to Abraham Lincoln; the road stretched 3,389 miles from Times Square, New York, to Lincoln Park, San Francisco. It was spearheaded by automotive leaders from Packard, Goodyear, and Prest-O-Lite to prove that long-distance car travel was practical. Much of the original route was later designated as U.S. Route 30, which runs through Mansfield and Central Park. Upon the Lincoln Highway Association's closure in 1928, the Boy Scouts of America installed 2,500 concrete markers, one of which was preserved and renovated as part of the downtown project and is visible today in the median by the flagpole in Central Park.

A new place to play, explore and connect in Mansfield! 💛

The Hollow at Middle Park is officially open, bringing a new 18-hole disc golf course to the community, along with improvements to the Parkview Trail and new pedestrian bridges.

Brightspeed was proud to join the City Of Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department, Mayor Jodie Perry - City of Mansfield, Ohio, community partners and neighbors for the ribbon cutting and to help bring this exciting project to life.
