After careful evaluation by city leaders, event organizers and emergency management, the City Council decided to cancel the 2020 Rockin 4th of July event. Please know this was not a decision made lightly, but one made in the best interest of the health and safety of everyone involved. Rockin 4th is always an amazing night of community and celebration, but there is simply no way to proceed with the social distance and cleaning protocols necessary to comply with the state restrictions and public health best practices. We are disappointed but stand by the importance of protecting our community’s health so we can all be around to celebrate many more holidays together in the future.

We still have a way to go when it comes to improving our 2020 Census response rate. Right now Mansfield is at 66.9 percent. We need residents to answer those 10 important Census questions, either online, on the phone or by mail. We especially need the neighborhoods in northwest and southeast Mansfield to respond. It takes less than 5 minutes to do something that means a lot to our community's future. Visit www.2020census.gov.

This week is Public Service Recognition Week, designated as the observance to honor local, state and federal public servants for all they do to keep our country moving. From the police, fire and public health employees that have worked diligently recently to keep residents safe to the street crews building roads, librarians reading to children and so many others, those in public service dedicate themselves to supporting the communities where they work and live. Thank you to them all.

UIL Cancels All Remaining Spring Activities and State Championships

With the announcement from Governor Greg Abbott that all Texas schools are to remain closed to in-person learning for the remainder of this school year, and in an effort to help protect the health and safety of Texans, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) is canceling all remaining 2019-2020 spring activities and state championships.

“Our staff had been working hard on plans to resume activities this spring, but without schools in session, interscholastic activities cannot continue,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “Our highest priority during this challenging time is ensuring the health and safety of our students and communities and making progress in the containment of COVID-19 in Texas. We are now turning our attention to the 2020-2021 school year.”

Practices, rehearsals, and workouts remain suspended until further notice. The previously communicated information allowing remote instruction remains in place. The UIL will continue to follow the direction of state authorities and will work closely with member schools to navigate this unprecedented time.

“I am grateful to the UIL staff for their leadership and dedication to students,” said UIL Legislative Council Chair Curtis Rhodes. “Together we will get through this and we look forward to the day students are once again able to participate in education-based interscholastic activities.”

Further details will be forthcoming. Please continue to check the UIL website and social media accounts for updates.

Do your part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

Plastic gloves and masks are everywhere, littering parking lots, streets, parks and creeks. They're also making their way into curbside recycling carts.

It’s dangerous because it can spread the disease to our essential workers and others.

Do your part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
Be sure to properly dispose of used gloves and masks in the trash. When you do go out, keep a plastic bag in your car or purse to store used gloves and masks in until you can trash them.
