As the construction on South Main Street finishes, just a reminder that the street parking there, from Broad to Hunt streets, is back-in parking. Remember the 1-2-3 process: one, signal to the traffic behind you and in the left lane; two, stop just past the parking spot; and three, reverse into the parking spot. If you don't want to tackle the back-in or parallel parking in historic downtown, there are several public parking lots still close to everything the area has to offer.

The Republic Services crew on Ashley Hartman Sumners' street wanted to show their appreciation for her kind words and recognizing their hard work in a message she sent to our page last week. So they dropped off coloring books to her niece and nephews that she takes care of every day. Looks like they were a hit. Nice work guys. And thanks again Ashley for taking the time to give us some feedback.

Thanks to Ashley Hartman Sumners for the compliment she sent to us about our Republic Services crews. "I would really like to commend the trash collectors in the Tanglewood neighborhood in Mansfield. I don't know how to get this to their supervisors so I'm starting here and maybe y'all can help me. I am a nanny for 2 year old twins and their baby sister in this neighborhood and they absolutely love to see the garbage truck come twice a week. We always either go outside or stand in the doorway and the men always wave and honk at them when they come by. A couple of weeks ago I saw them picking up a large pane of glass and putting it in the back of the truck. When they brought down the compactor it exploded and shot out all over the street. They stopped and got out their brooms and dustpans and collected all of it so that none was remaining in the street. I've definitely seen garbage collectors in other places simply leave a mess when they make it, but this wasn't the case here. Great job to everyone in the Duncan/Republic truck! Thank you for your kindness toward the children and for taking care of the neighborhood and doing your job well!" Thank you Ashley. We agree Mansfield has great crews.

N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestles makes the very best...chocolate. And now they make it in Mansfield. The Nestle Toll House Cafe at The Shops at Broad is now open. And it's not just cookies they're selling. The cafe has wraps, flatbreads, sandwiches and crepes as well. If you stop by say hello to owners Charlie and Sharonda Williams. This is the second location for Charlie, the former defensive back for the Dallas Cowboys, and his wife. They opened their first one at UTA in November. Welcome to Mansfield.

"It's about more than football." Despite how much he loved the game, that was the philosophy Mansfield High Football Coach Daniel Maberry lived every day. It was what he taught his players, by example. Coach Maberry was on hand in April 2018 when Mansfield and Lake Ridge players joined together to repair the home of former Mansfield coach Bob Havens as part of our volunteer program. Even though he was already undergoing treatment for his cancer, Coach Maberry was there in the cold and rain encouraging his players. He loved Mansfield and he wanted his players to give back to the community. He didn't just want them to be talented players who succeed on the field, he wanted them to be young men of character who succeed in life. So it's appropriate that the Coach Havens volunteer project was the first "Character Project" of the Mansfield Volunteer Program. We offer our deepest sympathies to his wife and daughters and to his Mansfield ISD family. He made a difference in our community and will be missed. See the project first hand and hear Coach Maberry talk about the importance of community. #maberrystrong https://youtu.be/Pt23rQZA6Oo

As you bundle up tonight, please don't forget about your furry family members. If it's too cold outside for you, it's too cold for a dog or cat. Please limit the time your pet stays outside in freezing weather; frostbite is a real danger to animals and can happen quickly. Any dogs that must remain outside should have a shelter with a raised floor, insulated walls and wind blocking at the door and water in a freeze-proof bowl. If you are concerned about an outdoor animal, please call Mansfield Animal Care & Control at (817) 276-4799 or MPD Non-Emergency hotline, (817) 473-0211.

Far be it from us to diss Google. You can find all kinds of great information there. But Google isn't always right. So if you want to get or renew a Texas Drivers License and Google tells you to go to Mansfield City Hall, it has led you astray. A drivers license is only available at DPS locations and there is not one in Mansfield. You can get your car tags at the Tarrant County Sub-Courthouse in Mansfield but not a drivers license. Please visit www.dps.texas.gov for a complete list of locations in North Texas and all the requirements to obtain a license. It's not that we don't want to help you. But whatever we issue to you won't pass muster with police officers or state troopers.

Just a reminder how this flashing signal thing works: flashing yellow means proceed but with caution, while flashing red means treat it as a stop sign, yield to traffic and proceed only when it is clear. They did cover that in Driver's Ed but for some of us (raising my hand) that's been awhile. Let's be careful out there.

“Mansfield: The best little town, in the best state in the best country in the world!” Mansfield had a number of slogans back in the day and our parks department has uncovered a few as part of their 60th anniversary celebration. Check them out below and let us know your favorite!

We're proud to celebrate sixty years of parks in Mansfield, and especially proud to be part of such an awesome community. In the 1960s, shortly after our first park had opened, local businesses showed their pride in the homecoming edition of the Mansfield News Mirror. We've gathered a few of our favorite slogans to share here today...which is your favorite?

Do you have a favorite memory or photo to share from our parks? Add it in the comments or submit your story on our website here: http://ow.ly/1Ub450xXzcJ
