After consulting with the local fire chiefs and the Police Jury President, effective today, July 27, 2026, DeSoto Parish is under a burn ban due to the extreme dry conditions and extreme heat. Once conditions improve the Police Jury and local fire chiefs will reassess and advise accordingly. Thank you and God Bless.

DeSoto Parish Police Jury Public Works Update

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury would like to provide residents with an update regarding our roadside maintenance schedule and the Stonewall Compactor Site project.
Due to the significant amount of storm debris generated by the winter storm earlier this year, our Road Department crews have spent the past several months focusing on parish-wide debris removal. The volume of cleanup has been much greater than normal, resulting in approximately a three-month delay in our regular mowing and roadside cutting schedule.
We understand the importance of maintaining our parish roads and rights-of-way, and we appreciate your understanding as our crews work diligently to catch up. Please be patient as we make our way to each area of the parish. We are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore our normal maintenance schedule.
We would also like to provide an update on the construction of the new turning lane and compactor site in Stonewall. Recent weather has caused delays in completing the turning lane portion of the project. However, we are still on track and anticipate completing the turning lane before the start of the upcoming school year.
We appreciate the continued patience and support of our residents as we work through these projects. Thank you for your understanding as we continue serving our parish.

Celebrating Independence Day and America's 250th Anniversary
The DeSoto Parish Police Jury proudly joins our nation in celebrating 250 years of American independence. As we reflect on the freedoms and blessings we enjoy, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of those who have defended our great nation throughout its history.
In observance of the Independence Day holiday, all DeSoto Parish Police Jury offices will be closed on Friday, July 3.
This closure includes:
• All Parish facilities, including Mundy Landfill
• All Parish compactor sites
Please note: The Parish compactor sites and Mundy Landfill will be open on Saturday, July 4, during their normal operating hours.
As we celebrate this historic milestone, we are reminded of the words found in Psalm 33:12:
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance."
The DeSoto Parish Police Jury wishes everyone a safe, joyful, and blessed Independence Day. May we continue to cherish the freedoms we have been given, honor those who have served our country, and look forward with hope as America enters its next chapter.

Keep DeSoto Beautiful is proud to announce that we have received the 2026 Affiliate Grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the office of Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.

With this $5000 grant, we will be able to reach residents throughout DeSoto Parish with a public service announcement(PSA) produced by KTBS. We will also work to combat illegal dumping by educating the public and increasing awareness of the consequences of illegal dumping.

Our main goal is to encourage everyone to do their part in keeping DeSoto Parish clean, beautiful and litter-free.

Attention DeSoto Parish residents, heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several areas across our region. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling and to stay alert for flooded roads, low-lying areas, and rapidly changing conditions.
If you encounter water covering a roadway, do not attempt to drive through it. Even a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle off the road, and it is often impossible to determine the depth of the water or the condition of the roadway beneath it.
Be smart. Turn around and find an alternate route. No destination is worth risking your life or the lives of your passengers.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather forecasts and emergency notifications for the latest updates. If you do not have to travel, consider staying off the roads until conditions improve.
Also, if DeSoto residents are in need of sandbags and you are able to safely travel, the DeSoto Parish Police Jury road department has sandbags available. The sandbags will be available tomorrow between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at our Road Department located at 424 Liberty Lane in Grand Cane. God Bless and stay safe!

The water line has been repaired and the pressure is returning. All DeSoto Parish Police Jury facilities previously shut down will be open tomorrow. Thank you to Water District 1 for the speedy repair. God Bless.

These facilities will be closed until the water has been restored. As soon as we have an update from the water district, it will be posted.

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury offices and compactor sites will be closed on Monday May 25, 2026, observance of Memorial Day as we join our nation in honoring the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms. Memorial Day is more than a holiday—it is a sacred day of remembrance, gratitude, and patriotism as we reflect on those heroes whose courage and devotion secured the liberties we cherish today. As we gather with family and friends, let us proudly remember and honor the fallen who gave everything for our country. God bless our servicemen and women, and God bless America.

Keep DeSoto Beautiful thanks Marketplace Chevrolet for a wonderfully successful Put the Brakes on Litter campaign in April!! All customers were given a car litter bag with information about keeping our roads clean! 26 PSA's ran on KTBS throughout the month of April. The PSA's included John Adams, one of the owners of Marketplace Chevrolet, Ernel Jones, President of the DeSoto Parish Police Jury, and Edna Stevenson, Executive Director of Keep DeSoto Beautiful.
