BRIJHS Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

New Procedures for the 2026–2027 School Year

As we begin the new school year, we are implementing updated arrival and dismissal procedures at Blue Ridge Intermediate & Junior High School. These changes are designed to increase student safety, improve traffic flow, and create separate designated areas for buses, cars, and walkers.

With McKinley Street now operating as a two-way street at all times, it is especially important
that families follow the designated traffic patterns outlined below.

Please review the information carefully and refer to the accompanying map/photo for a visual
guide.

πŸš— STUDENT ARRIVAL
Students may enter the building beginning at 7:45 a.m.

🚌 Bus Riders
● No change to the bus drop-off procedure.
● Bus riders will continue to be dropped off in the one-way circle drive, as in previous
years.
● Students will enter the building through our single point of entry.
● Please do not use the bus area for personal vehicle drop-off.

🚢 Walkers
● Students walking to school should use the newly installed crosswalk on McKinley
Street.
● Students should cross only at the designated crosswalk.
● Once across the street, students should proceed directly to the school entrance.

πŸš™ Car Riders
● Car riders will use the parallel parking/drop-off area in front of the Junior High.
● Please pull forward to the closest available spot in the car drop-off lane.
● Pulling all the way forward allows us to fit as many vehicles as possible into the
designated area.
● When the parallel parking area is full, vehicles should form a line around the perimeter
of the parking lot across the street from the school and wait to enter the car-rider
area.
● Students using the car-rider area should be able to enter and exit the vehicle
independently from the passenger side.
● Students should exit only on the passenger side of the vehicle, away from moving
traffic.
● Please do not park or leave your vehicle in the car drop-off section. This creates a
backlog of vehicles and prevents traffic from moving efficiently.
● If you need to exit your vehicle, please park in the parking lot across the street from
the school.

⏰ Important Arrival Times
● 7:45 a.m. β€” Students may begin entering the building.
● 8:20 a.m. β€” Students arriving after this time will be considered tardy.

🏫 SINGLE POINT OF ENTRY
For the safety and security of all students and visitors:
● We will continue to use one designated entrance for all students and visitors.
● All students, regardless of how they arrive at school, should enter through the
designated entrance.
● Please follow staff directions and posted traffic signs when arriving at school.

πŸš— STUDENT DISMISSAL
Please follow the designated procedure for your student's transportation
method.

🚌 Bus Riders
● Red and Blue Routes: These buses will load at our regular 3:10 p.m. dismissal time.
● White, Green, and Purple Routes: These are our late bus routes and will typically
load at approximately 3:30 p.m.
● All buses will continue to load in the one-way circle drive.
● Please do not enter or park in the bus loading area during dismissal.

🚢 Walkers
● Students who walk home will be asked to use the newly installed crosswalk on
McKinley Street.
● Students should use the designated crosswalk rather than crossing at other locations.
● Staff will assist with dismissal and help direct students safely through the designated
area.

πŸš™ Car Riders
● Families picking up students by vehicle should use the parallel parking area in front of
the Junior High.
● Families will receive a car-rider placard to display on the front dashboard of their
vehicle.
● The placard will display the student's last name, which will allow staff to call students to
the car-rider area, similar to the system used at Schneider Elementary.
● As the parallel parking area fills, families should form a line around the perimeter of
the parking lot across the street from the school.
● Please remain in your vehicle while waiting for your student.
● Please pull forward to the closest available spot in the car pickup lane to keep traffic
moving and allow additional vehicles to enter the pickup area.
● Students should enter the vehicle from the passenger side whenever possible.

πŸ…ΏοΈ Need to Enter the School?
If you need to enter the school during dismissal:
● Please park in the parking lot across the street from the school.
● Do not leave your vehicle unattended in the car-rider or bus-loading areas.
● Keeping the designated loading areas clear will help dismissal move safely and
efficiently.

πŸ›‘ PLEASE HELP US KEEP TRAFFIC
MOVING
The success of our new arrival and dismissal procedures depends on everyone following the
same traffic pattern.
Please remember:
● Pull all the way forward.
● Do not leave your vehicle unattended in a loading area.
● Use the designated crosswalk when walking.
● Keep students on the passenger side of the vehicle.
● Follow staff directions and traffic signs.
● Do not use the bus-loading area for car drop-off or pickup.
● If you need to leave your vehicle, park in a designated parking space.
● Be patient as we work together to establish the new routine.

πŸ’™ Our Goal: A Safer, Smoother Arrival &
Dismissal
Our primary goal in making these changes is to increase the safety of our students and
families while improving the flow of traffic around BRIJHS.

By establishing separate designated areas for buses, car riders, and walkers, we can reduce congestion and create a safer arrival and dismissal processβ€”especially now that McKinley Street will operate as a two-way street at all times.

We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and commitment to helping us make arrival and
dismissal as safe and efficient as possible for everyone.

Thank you for helping us make safety our priority!

Back-to-School Traffic & Safety Notice

As the new school year begins, the Village would like to remind all residents and visitors to exercise extra caution while traveling throughout the community.

McKinley Street has officially returned to two-way traffic. Motorists are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the updated traffic pattern and to drive safely by reducing speed, remaining alert, and yielding to pedestrians whenever appropriate. Increased vehicle and pedestrian activity is expected during school arrival and dismissal times as students, families, and school staff adjust to the change.

In addition, Blue Ridge Schools have implemented updated student pickup and drop-off procedures for the upcoming school year. These changes are intended to improve traffic flow and enhance student safety. Residents and parents with questions regarding these procedures should contact the school district directly for specific instructions and guidance.

The Village appreciates the cooperation of all residents in helping create a safe environment for our students, families, and community members throughout the school year. Thank you for helping keep our community safe.

And as always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding Village matters, please contact a Village Board Member or the Village Board President.
