--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today, Thursday, August 14, 2025, after a 2-week Jury Trial, jurors found Jareth Vance guilty of all 42 counts of his Indictment.

Vance was indicted for Attempted Aggravated Murder (4 counts), Attempted Murder (4 counts), Aggravated Burglary (1 count), Felonious Assault (7 counts), Kidnapping (11 counts), Aggravated Arson (1 count), Menacing by Stalking (6 counts), Inducing Panic (1 count), Disrupting Public Service (1 count), Possessing Criminal Tools (1 count), Aggravated Menacing (1 count), Attempted Cruelty to Animals (2 counts) and Theft (2 counts).

On February 11, 2024, Vance set fire to the home of an ex-girlfriend with her dogs locked inside, in Crawford County, before traveling to a residence in Ontario where her and her family were having a Super Bowl party. Vance entered the residence, uninvited and unannounced. He held everyone, including multiple children, in the residence against their will at gunpoint, before shooting and wounding an Ontario Officer along with another victim. Vance then barricaded himself in the residence for 4 hours before finally surrendering. Vance admitted to each of these heinous acts while he testified on the stand on Tuesday with absolute zero remorse.

Sentencing will be held August 28, 2025.

A huge congratulations to Prosecutor Jodie Schumacher and First Assistant Prosecutor Teri Burnside for their tireless pursuit of justice and a special thanks to the Ontario Police USA, Richland County Sheriff's Office, Ohio and BCI for their diligent effort on this case. May all of the victims feel a sense that justice has been served.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and this year we are recognizing the resiliency shown by survivors as they navigate their healing journeys. Often, survivors deal with the effects of trauma for days, months, years, or longer, which can affect every aspect of their lives. That is why we are asking the community to join us in recognizing that strength and perseverance as we Take Back the Night!
