It is time to recognize our correctional staff during the week of May 4-10 , 2025, for National Correctional Officers and Employees Week!

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, creating “National Correctional Officers’ Week”. In 1996 Congress officially changed the name of the week to National Correctional Officers and Employees Week. Since then each year, the first full week in May is recognized as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, commemorating the contributions of correctional officers and personnel who work in jails, prisons, and community corrections across the country.

The correctional officer profession is one of the most challenging careers one can pursue. You keep our citizens and our communities safe. You wear many hats from day to day on any given day. Many people outside these walls truly do not understand what you are faced with on a daily basis and often at a great personal risk. You are among the most capable, committed, and patient public servants in the world. In recent years and especially the past month or so, your responsibilities have become increasingly challenging and difficult. Your very important work often goes overlooked, unappreciated and you often do not receive the recognition that is well deserved.

It is appropriate that Richland County recognizes many contributions and accomplishments of these men and women who are a vital component to our community.

As we move through these challenging times, your hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all of the correctional officers and employees representing the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

The Richland County Sheriff's Office would like to thank all of our dispatchers for their dedication and hard work.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office is proud to be a 2024 recipient of the Safety-First Grant check from Norfolk Southern in the amount of $8,163.00. Richland County is in Norfolk Southern’s Great Lake Division.

The funds are being used to training equipment for the deputies, tactical helmets for our Northern Ohio Fugitive Task Force deputies, and a drone for closed quarter searches.

The grant is part of two community programs launched by Norfolk Southern in 2023: the Safety-first Grant Program, which seeks to advance safety organizations and initiatives, and the Thriving Communities Grant Program, which aims to promote economic opportunity, support vibrant community life, and provide equal access to basic necessities. Award recipients are selected annually from across the railroad’s 22-state network.
