What do you do with old firehose? Some use it on boat docks, still others make wallets and bags. In Mansfield, we donated our old and expired firehose to the Center for Animal Research and Education. This organization used our old hose for beds and hammocks for the animals. I cannot think of a better use for it.

Thank you Chico and Mansfield Fire Departments for the donation of old firehose's to make beds and hammocks for the animals. Malika very much approved of her new bed! #daretocare #carerescuetexas #lynx

Jarrod Brodnax was a Mansfield Firefighter. Seven years ago, today, he lost his battle with ALS. In his memory, all of our trucks carry his initials and badge number. Today, we replace the original stickers on the truck with the ones below. Although many of our current firefighters never worked with Jarrod, they know who he is and what he means to our department.

Puerto Rico has experienced the worst earthquake in more than a century, along with wide electrical blackout. Mansfield Fire Department is partnering with the Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas, Jim Crabtree, Jose Guzman, a local business owner, and other DFW fire departments to collect canned foods and water to be delivered to the citizens of Puerto Rico.

Mansfield Fire Department will allow our stations to be drop off and collection points for donations from January 20 - February 15, 2020. We will only accept water and food donations at the fire stations. If someone would like to make a monetary donation, they may do so at the Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas Website.

At the City Council meeting on November 11th, Mansfield Fire Department awarded Gabriel Vivoni the Citizen’s Meritorious Act Award for his selfless acts of heroism on the night of November 4th. The details of that night are listed below. What a remarkable young man.

The Mansfield Fire Department responded to the 4300 block of Gleneagles Drive at 9:21 pm on Monday, November 4, 2019. Multiple 911 calls were received about a house on fire. Initial arriving units reported heavy fire in the garage and attic area. Crews were forced to fight the fire from the outside of the house. Once most of the fire was out, crews were able to enter the building and confirm no occupants were still inside. The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

A 17-year-old teen reported the fire to 911. The student was returning home after swim practice. This 17-year-old went to the door and knocked loudly trying to alert the occupants to the fire. The 17 year entered the house and assisted an 11 year old out of the burning house safely.

We want to remind everyone that working smoke detectors reduce your chances of dying in a fire by over 50 %.

Who’s excited for an extra hour of sleep? ✋ Unless you have small kids, in which case it’s just another day. What to do with that extra hour? Hmmm, I know, use that time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Studies show that you reduce your chances of dying in a fire by half if you have working smoke detector. Change your clocks. Change your batteries!

For those that did not receive alerts, here is the most up to date information.

UPDATE ON EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM: We’ve heard from some of you about how the MEAS worked during last night’s storms. Many of you received your alerts, but some did not. We are currently working with the programmers to determine any possible problems. Some users we believe did not receive alerts because they had not specifically joined the weather alert groups. Please login to your profile and make sure that you have completed all the information and joined the weather alert groups. There are three listed – Tarrant County, Johnson County and Ellis County. You can join one or all three. These groups are tied to the National Weather Service Alert System so to receive weather notifications you must join these groups. If you have any questions or problems registering, please let us know. You can send us a PM from the page or an email from the website https://www.mansfieldtexas.gov/FormCenter/Miscellaneous-22/General-Concerns-or-Feedback-94.

Storms are possible Sunday night into Monday morning. Have you signed up for the new Emergency Alert System? If you did not know already, our Code Red system is gone. Here’s all the info on how to sign up for your customized alerts.

While you’re perusing the website’s new design, please take a moment to register for the Mansfield Emergency Alert System. This new mass notification program is replacing Code Red and giving us a more comprehensive and efficient way to notify residents in emergencies - from severe weather alerts to missing persons. So we need you to register. Unfortunately we do not have the Code Red data. If you were registered in Code Red you will need to register for MEAS. And a bonus with this system is you have control over the alerts you want to receive and how you receive them - email, phone or text. Severe weather is coming this weekend. Don’t be caught unaware. https://www.mansfieldtexas.gov/312/Mansfield-Emergency-Alert-System

Mansfield Fire Rescue Chief Michael Ross statement on Matlock Road house fire:

At approximately 3:34 p.m. today (June 25) fire crews responded to a reported structure fire in the 1000 block of Matlock Road. Crews arrived to find a large, two-story home with heavy smoke in the attic. The owners safely escaped the structure, and no injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported. The size of the fire and today's temperatures prompted the call for a second alarm, which brought assistance from Arlington and Midlothian Fire Departments. Units remain on scene at this time for overhaul. The cause is under investigation.
