Did you know that the City of Mansfield once had a different spelling? The two founders of Mansfield, Ralph Man and Juilan Feild, built a grist mill at the crossroads that was to become the center of Mansfield; the beginnings of the community probably existed in the oak groves bordering Walnut Creek. Eventually, the community that was quickly sprouting around the mill began to be referred to as “Mansfeild”, combining the family names of the two owners of the grist mill that promoted the development of the area. However, after many years of frequent misspellings, the more conventional spelling of “Mansfield” became the official name of the city.
