🚒 Multi‑Agency Extrication Training in Mansfield 🚒

Yesterday, Douglas County Fire District #5 had the privilege of hosting a multi‑agency extrication class right here in Mansfield. Personnel from Douglas County Fire Districts #1, #4, and #5 came together for a hands‑on, four‑hour training focused on strengthening our shared capabilities.

A huge thank‑you to Justin Burch with Diamondback Northwest for instructing the course. The class covered the fundamentals of vehicle stabilization, multiple levels of extrication techniques, scene safety, and EMS integration—all essential skills for responding effectively to real‑world emergencies.

We were fortunate to have three vehicles available for practical training scenarios, generously transported to our site by B & T Towing in Peshastin. Their support made this training possible.

This class was well‑received by all who attended and showcased the value of strong regional partnerships. Our districts often rely on one another during complex incidents, and opportunities like this help reinforce teamwork, continuity, and confidence on emergency scenes.

We appreciate everyone who participated and contributed to another successful day of multi‑agency collaboration.

Energy Conservation Upgrades Completed at Station 25‑1

Douglas County Fire District #5 is proud to announce that the energy‑efficiency upgrades at Station 25‑1 were officially completed yesterday. Contractors have finished installing the new heat‑pump air‑handling systems, upgraded the station’s electrical infrastructure, and completed the full transition from fluorescent lighting to high‑efficiency LED fixtures.

With the work now wrapped up, the station is already benefiting from improved reliability, better lighting quality, and long‑term reductions in energy use. Highlights of the completed project include:

• Replacement of all 45‑year‑old electric furnaces with modern, energy‑efficient heat‑pump air handlers

• Upgraded electrical panels and new dedicated circuits to support the HVAC improvements

• Station‑wide LED lighting conversion, enhancing visibility while reducing maintenance and operating costs

We extend a sincere thank‑you to Heiserman Electrical Services and North Cascades Heating and Air Conditioning for their professionalism and craftsmanship throughout this project. Their work was essential in bringing these upgrades to completion.

These upgrades represent a major investment in the sustainability, safety, and resilience of your community’s fire station. This project was made possible through the $120,565 grant awarded by the Rural Energy Efficiency Program from Public Utility District No. 1 of Douglas County. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Douglas County PUD Commissioners and staff for their continued support.

Final photos of the completed work are included below, showcasing the improvements now in place.

🚒 Grant Update – New Lifesaving Equipment Has Arrived! 🚒

Douglas County Fire District #5 is excited to share that the equipment funded through our recent $10,149 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has officially arrived!

Thanks to this generous support, our department now has two new SCOTT RIT‑Paks and air cylinder assemblies in service-ready condition. These units replace aging equipment and provide a dependable air supply during firefighter rescue operations, an essential resource when working in high‑risk, low‑visibility environments.

This investment directly enhances firefighter safety and strengthens our ability to respond when every second counts. We are grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, our local Firehouse Subs restaurant in Burbank, and the donors who make these community-focused grants possible.

We’re proud to show these new RIT‑Paks in the photos below and look forward to putting them to work in the service of your community.

🚧 Energy Conservation Upgrades Underway at Station 25‑1 🚧

Douglas County Fire District #5 is excited to share that work has officially begun on the Energy Conservation Equipment upgrades funded through the Rural Energy Efficiency Program from Public Utility District No. 1 of Douglas County.

Earlier this week, HVAC contractors began removing the original 45+ year‑old electric furnaces from the fire apparatus bays. These aging units are being replaced with modern, energy‑efficient heat-pump air handlers—a major step forward in improving reliability and long‑term operating efficiency.

At the same time, our electrical contractor has started upgrading the station’s electrical panels and installing new circuits to support the HVAC improvements. This work will continue into next week, including:

• Replacing two additional legacy furnaces
• Beginning the station‑wide transition from fluorescent lighting to high‑efficiency LED fixtures

These upgrades represent another significant investment in the safety, sustainability, and resilience of your fire station. None of this progress would be possible without the $120,565 grant award provided through the Rural Energy Efficiency Program, and we remain deeply grateful to the Douglas County PUD Commissioners and staff for their continued support.

We look forward to sharing more updates as the project advances.

Douglas County Fire District #5 – Grant Funding Announcement

Over the past several days, Douglas County Fire District #5 has been awarded several important grants that will directly support our volunteers and enhance our ability to serve the community.

• WADNR/USFS 2026 Volunteer Fire Assistance – Phase 3 Grant ($3,557.89)
This funding will allow us to purchase 12 new fire shelters for our wildland apparatus, replacing older, non‑compliant shelters currently in service. These shelters are a critical safety component for our firefighters during wildland operations.

• WADNR/USFS 2026 Volunteer Fire Assistance – Phase 2 Grant ($6,000.00)
This grant will help complete the construction of the district’s two new Stewart‑Stevenson LMTV Brush Trucks. These units are expected to be in service for the 2026 wildland fire season and will significantly strengthen our wildland response capabilities.

• AgWest Farm Credit – Rural Community Grant Program ($2,500.00)
This award will be used to purchase large‑diameter Storz hydrant valves for both of the district’s structure engines, improving water-supply efficiency during structure-fire operations.

Combined, these grants allow us to continue making essential equipment upgrades without impacting the district’s budget capacity. Applying for and securing grant funding is one of the many ways we remain committed to being responsible stewards of district finances while pursuing every available opportunity to improve our service.

We extend our sincere thanks to WADNR, the U.S. Forest Service, and AgWest Farm Credit for their support and investment in our district’s mission. Their contributions directly enhance the safety and readiness of your volunteer firefighters.
