Today marks a bittersweet day for the Manteno Police Department, as Officer Aaron Tobeck retires after 20 years of service.
Over his career with the Manteno Police Department, Aaron has worked as a patrol officer on every shift. He spent time on the Countywide Emergency Response Team (aka SWAT), the Statewide Mobile Field Force, and served as a Field Training Officer.
Early in his career, Aaron's natural ability to form positive connections with citizens of every age was noticed and utilized. With only a few years on the job, Aaron was put in charge of the department's pilot program Juvenile Police Academy. Later, Aaron also ran the department's Senior Police Academy.
By far, the most defining part of Aaron's career has been his assignment as School Resource Officer. When he took on that role eight years ago, we had no doubt he would do well. However, nobody could have guessed how much he would grow to love that role, nor how big of an impact he would have on the schools and the community. He became a valuable bridge between the police, the schools, and the kids of Manteno. He was not just viewed by the schools as an officer there to protect, but as an important member of the school staff. And he was trusted by the students to be fair and honest with them, which led to positive outcomes in many sensitive situations.
We know he will be missed by the schools, the kids, the community, and especially his fellow officers.
Please join us in thanking Aaron for his service and wishing him and his wife much health and happiness in the next chapter of their life!
