We are pleased to announce that a new scholarship honoring three beloved Manteo High School math teachers has been established with the Community Foundation. 💛🖤

In the spring of 2027, the first student from Manteo High School will receive The Liz Brown, John Houston, and Suzanne Pack Math Education Scholarship. The $1,000 renewable award will help put math teachers into classrooms to carry on the legacy of this inspirational MHS trio.

We’re happy to announce that Amy Craft Klassen has been named the new executive director of Roanoke Island Festival Park. With nearly 20 years of experience in museums and cultural organizations, including leadership roles at the Butler Institute of American Art in Ohio and the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum in Florida, she brings a strong background in operations, strategic planning, and public programming to the Outer Banks.

Her leadership will help further the park’s mission to share and celebrate the region’s rich history with visitors from near and far. Klassen officially begins her role on September 18.

On Princess Anne, daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, visited the Elizabeth II. She was heavily involved in America's 400th anniversary celebrations between 1984 and 1987. This image was taken when she christened the ship on July 13, 1984.
