Unearth a Story this summer with Dare County Library Foundation📚🌱

Reading doesn’t have to be a chore — it’s an adventure waiting to be discovered. Our Unearth a Story Summer Reading Program is FREE, family-friendly, and open to everyone (you don’t even need a library card to participate!).

Here’s how it works:
📖 Read what you love
☀️ Each day you read = 1 ticket earned
✍️ Keep track of your reading days
🎟️ Visit the library, tell us how many days you’ve read, and collect your tickets!

Want a chance to win a prize? Drop your tickets into the prize box you like best and cross your fingers!

Prizes will be awarded August 3rd — and you don’t have to be present to win!

Keep reading, keep exploring, and keep unearthing new stories all summer long.

One book at a time can make a lifetime of difference📚

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge is one of the many wonderful programs supported by the Dare County Library Foundation and offered through Dare County Libraries.

The challenge is simple: read 1,000 books with your child before they start kindergarten. It may sound like a lot, but just one book a day gets you there sooner than you think—and every read counts, even favorite books read again and again.

The program is free, open to any child who hasn’t started kindergarten, and you don’t need a library card to participate. Along the way, little readers can celebrate milestones every 100 books with stickers, prizes, and recognition.
