The Town of Manteo and Manteo Police Department are proud to recognize Officer Tanner Grogan for five years of dedicated service to our community and the Manteo Police Department.

Chief Eilert praised Officer Grogan for his commitment to professional growth and service, noting that Manteo has been his home throughout his entire law enforcement career. During his five years with the Manteo Police Department, Officer Grogan has completed extensive training and earned certification as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), a prestigious nationwide credential held by only a handful of officers in Dare County. His expertise is frequently called upon by neighboring agencies, demonstrating the trust and respect he has earned throughout the region.

In addition to his service, Officer Grogan is continuing his education and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree from Appalachian State University.

"He is a pleasure to have with the police department and an excellent asset," Chief Eilert said. "Thank you for your five years of service, Tanner." Thank you Officer Grogan for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving the Town of Manteo.

๐Ÿš“Congratulations on this milestone, and thank you for five years of outstanding service!๐Ÿš“

The Manteo Board of Commissioners honored three Manteo Police Officers tonight: Sergeant Billy Deaton, Officer Shannon Epps, and Officer Dalton Gross. These brave men were presented Lifesaving Awards for their courageous actions as first responders who protected and saved lives in our community with their heroic actions.

Sergeant Deaton and Officer Epps of the Manteo Police Department, along with Dare County Sheriffโ€™s Deputies Matthew Fountain and Noah Turbitt, Roanoke Island Volunteer Firefighters, Dare County Firefighters, and Dare County Paramedics, were recognized for their bravery during the March 4, 2026 fire at the Shallowbag Bay Condominiums. These first responders entered a burning structure, going door to door to alert residents and safely evacuate them from danger.

Officer Dalton Gross was presented with a Lifesaving Award for his heroic actions on March 5, 2026, when he entered the water to rescue a driver trapped inside a sinking vehicle near the causeway. Officer Gross safely assisted both the driver and her dog back to shore.

The Town of Manteo is incredibly proud of these brave individuals and grateful for their dedication, courage, and commitment to serving our community. Please join us in congratulating and thanking them for their outstanding service. ๐Ÿš“
