Dare County Extension Master Food Volunteer Graduation!
An NC State Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) is a trained community member who helps deliver research-based education on nutrition, cooking, food safety, and local food systems. Working alongside Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) agents, they help expand the reach of NC Cooperative Extension into local communities. In addition, volunteers assist with community-based programs and outreach, including food preservation classes, lunch n’ learn workshops, cooking demonstrations at community locations (such as farmers’ markets and food pantries), kids cooking camps, and community health fairs.
Dare County Extension recently had two trainees to complete the required 30 hours of specialized training in food safety, culinary skills, and nutrition to become a Certified Master Food Volunteer. Congratulations to Nancy Beadling (on the left in photo) and Linda Foster.
You do not need to be a professional chef or dietitian to become an EMFV—just have an interest in food and a willingness to help others.
