🚧 **Traffic Alert**

There is a water main break in front of Amadas Street. Traffic is **not being diverted**, but drivers traveling northbound should use the turn lane to safely go around Public Works crews who are on scene working.

Parents coming from the north end to pick up children at MES are encouraged to use the traffic light at Harriot Street and take Wingina Avenue to the school to help avoid the affected area.

Please slow down, use caution, and allow extra time when traveling through the area. 🚗⚠️

Yes, you are required to have your driver's license with you whenever you are operating a motor vehicle in North Carolina.

A recent change in North Carolina law allows drivers with a standard Class C license that expires on or after July 1, 2025, to continue driving within the state for up to two years beyond the printed expiration date. This temporary extension is in effect through December 31, 2027. After that date, the extension expires unless further action is taken by the General Assembly.

However, we strongly encourage you to renew your license as soon as possible. An expired license covered by this extension is valid only for driving privileges within North Carolina. It may not be accepted as valid identification for air travel, banking, prescriptions, or use in other states."

Congratulations to Lieutenant Corbin on completing the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy, a significant milestone in professional law enforcement leadership development.

The FBI-LEEDA Trilogy represents the Manteo Police Department's commitment to leadership development and succession planning among its senior officers. The program consists of three intensive, week-long courses: the Supervisor Leadership Institute (SLI), the Command Leadership Institute (CLI), and the Executive Leadership Institute (ELI). Together, these courses provide a comprehensive leadership education designed to prepare law enforcement professionals for the challenges of supervising, commanding, and leading their organizations.

Lieutenant Corbin is the fourth member of the Manteo Police Department to complete the Trilogy, joining Investigator Moore, Sergeant Deaton, and Sergeant Rhoads.

At the Manteo Police Department, we believe leadership is a journey of continuous learning. Uppowoc will be open to local residents only (those who live on that street). All other traffic will be directed toward Hwy. 64, where traffic signals are located.

Chief Eilert recently attended the FBI-LEEDA Command Leadership Institute (CLI), a nationally recognized leadership program designed to prepare law enforcement professionals for command-level positions. The intensive 4½-day course focuses on leadership development, ethical decision-making, team building, resiliency, and leading organizational change.

The FBI-LEEDA CLI program follows a “Cops Teaching Cops” model, allowing officers to learn from experienced law enforcement leaders from across the country while sharing real-world experiences and best practices.

In law enforcement, learning never stops. No matter the rank or years of experience, there is always an opportunity to grow, adapt, and improve.
