Over 9,000 customers on the Barrier Island are currently without power due to a substation fire affecting areas including Mantoloking, Toms River, and Lavallette. Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) is actively working to assess the issue and restore service as safely and quickly as possible. We’ll share updates as they become available. Please use caution, limit unnecessary travel, and report downed wires to JCP&L or 911.

Today we remember and honor all those whose lives were lost in the tragic events of 9/11/2001. We also honor the brave men and women who ran towards danger to save the victims of these attacks. Never forget.

Tonight, members of Mantoloking Fire Company were recognized by the Mantoloking Council for their outstanding efforts on June 24th, 2025. Members were recognized for their exceptional dedication and bravery while responding to 12 emergency calls during an extreme heat wave and challenging traffic conditions. Members recognized: Chief Scott Hulse, Assistant Chief Ira Waldman, Captain Lou Carlucci, Lieutenant Foster Voorhees IV, Alex Hubner and Doug Popaca.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the firefighters who were shot and killed and others who were injured, while responding to a wildland fire near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, this past weekend.

This senseless act of violence is a devastating reminder of how fragile life is and how dangerous the life of a first responder can be.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and colleagues of those impacted. We stand in solidarity with our wildland fire community and the many agencies who responded to this heartbreaking incident.

Today Mantoloking Fire Company held 2 drills. Our first drill was training for landing zone setup and apparatus placement in the event of a Med-Evac. Our second drill was pump operations with 3502 and 3501 connected to eachother feeding off a hydrant. 3502’s new deck gun was also in operation.

UPDATE - 3:01pm - JCP&L was able to reduce the amount of customers out from 337 to 129. Those remaining 129 customers will be out overnight until repairs are completed in the early morning. We should also be able to open one lane within the hour.

As of approximately 1pm Route 35 is shut down between Lyman and Goetze due to a MVA with wires down across the highway. Traffic is being diverted down Barnegat Lane as East Avenue is closed for milling and paving operations. Please avoid the area if you can for the next few hours or pack your patience to be diverted around.

Members of Station 14 and Mantoloking Station 35 are staffing engine 1411 today as part of a forest fire strike team.
