DODGE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CHAPLAINS DONATE $34,000 TO SUPPORT DRONE PROGRAM UPGRADES

DODGE COUNTY, MN — The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Chaplains have donated $34,000 to assist with updates and enhancements to the agency’s drone program.

The donation was made possible through funds raised during the annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Event held on March 21, 2026. The upgraded drone capabilities will support a wide range of public safety operations throughout Dodge County, including search and rescue missions, critical incidents, disaster response, crime scene documentation, and other emergency response efforts.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Chaplains would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the many local businesses, sponsors, volunteers, and community members whose support made this event such a tremendous success. Their generosity and partnership directly support public safety efforts throughout Dodge County.

Sheriff Scott Rose expressed appreciation for the continued support shown by the community and the Chaplains.

“This event would not have been possible without the Chaplain organization and the incredible support from our community,” said Sheriff Rose. “We are extremely grateful to everyone who attended, donated, sponsored, volunteered, and helped make this fundraiser such a success. These upgraded drone capabilities will provide our deputies and emergency responders with valuable tools and technology that will help us better serve and protect our communities.”

The Sheriff’s Office and Chaplains also extended a special thank you to Angie and Sean Malloy at The Studio for the tremendous amount of time and effort they dedicated toward organizing and supporting the event.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to recognize and support the many businesses, sponsors, and individuals who contributed to the success of the Chaplain fundraiser. A complete list of supporters can be viewed at.

Dodge County would like to warn residents about a new email phishing scam affecting Dodge and nearby counties.

Recently in Dodge County, a resident received an email that looked like it came from the county administrator. The email was concerning a property permit and asked the person to wire money for an invoice. This email was fake.

Scammers are sending emails from Hotmail, Gmail, and other non county addresses. They label the email with a name that looks like it is from a county in Minnesota, but it is not real.

These scammers find information from public websites. They then use that information to create a fake invoice that asks you to pay by wire transfer. Because they include your correct information, the email may look official — but it is not.

Important things to know:
• Dodge County rarely sends direct emails to residents.
• We will never send emails from Hotmail, Gmail, or other free email accounts.
• All real county emails end in dodgecountymn.gov.
• If you receive an email and are unsure if it is real, contact us right away. (DO NOT REPLY TO THE EMAIL OR CALL ANY NUMBERS IN THE EMAILS OR ATTACHMENTS)

How to protect yourself:
• Be careful with emails that look suspicious.
• Do not click links or open attachments if you didn’t expect the message.
• If something seems off, contact Dodge County to double check.

Staying alert and asking questions can help keep your information safe.

Wasioja Ruins Restoration Moves Ahead

Since last fall, there have been big changes to the ruins of the Wasioja Seminary. The wooden framework surrounding the ruins was removed and an internal steel skeleton was erected. Workers from Environmental Associates, Inc., installed the permanent steel framework for stabilizing the ruins. Work has also been completed to make the ruins more accessible.

The company specializes in the restoration of historical sites in Minnesota and masons have been working on both the interior and exterior of the building to prepare the joints and apply grout where needed between the limestone blocks so the walls can stand for another 160+ years.

History of the Seminary Building
The seminary officially opened its doors in 1860, marking the beginning of its role in higher education. However, when the Civil War began, a significant number of students left to join the military. As a result, the seminary was unable to recapture the level of success it had experienced during its initial years.

After its decline, the building served a variety of purposes until 1905. That year, a fire broke out, destroying the wooden framework and ending its use for these enterprises.

In 1950, the site was donated to Dodge County. The original limestone walls, constructed from blocks quarried nearby, endured for over a century, gradually settling and deteriorating. Notably, this structure is the last remaining building from the first three institutions of higher education in Minnesota, which also include Hamline University (established in 1854) and the University of Minnesota (established in 1851).

In recent years, funding was secured to stabilize the ruins. This was made possible through a grant provided by an appropriation to the Minnesota Historical Society from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
