It is 19.89 square miles bounded by West Deptford Township to the North; the Borough of Wenonah, Deptford and Washington Township to the East; the Borough of Pitman and part of Glassboro Borough to the South; Ha

rrison Township to the Southwest and East Greenwich Township to the West. It is situated on an elevated bluff overlooking Mantua Creek, from which the township derives its name. Mantua Creek is named from the Indian word “Manta”, meaning frog, because of the frog chorus which yearly occurred in this area. Mantua Creek was the chief source of navigation and transportation for both the Lenni-Lenape Indians and early settlers. Mantua Township was formerly a part of Greenwich Township, and by an act passed on February 23, 1853 this new township was created. The first town meeting was held on March 9, 1853 at the Union School House. The Union School House is now a Senior Citizen Center and Township Museum.

I stopped by Chestnut Branch Park this afternoon to check out the facility and to inspect the progress of ongoing projects.

Our six new State of the Art Pickleball Courts and the newly resurfaced Basketball Courts are coming along nicely! We anticipate play by early July!

🚨MAYOR’S BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT - PAL JOEY’S DELI 🍽️🥖

Mayor Bob Zimmerman🎩 and Police Chief Bill Murphy👮‍♂️recently stopped-by Pal Joey’s Deli located in the Timberline Shopping Center at 660 Woodbury-Glassboro Road in our great community!

Pal Joey’s Deli certainly needs no introduction, as it’s been recognized many times over again for offering some of the best hoagies in the Southern New Jersey area. Most recently, Owner Joseph R. Colli (better known as Joey to his family, friends and regulars) and his son, Joseph A. Colli (aka Joey) and their team at Pal Joey’s topped the list as the “BEST OF THE BEST” by South Jersey Magazine for their remarkable hoagies🥇.

Fun Facts: Owner, Joey Colli and his wife, Debbie are 33 year residents of Mantua Township🏠. At the young age of 81, Joey still works daily at the business. He’s a human dynamo who demonstrates an old school work ethic.

Joey and Debbie’s son-in-law, Bill Murphy is our newest Police Chief. Chief Murphy is married to the Colli’s daughter, Dawn👰‍♀️.

We are proud to spotlight local businesses like Pal Joey’s that continue to invest in Mantua Township and contribute to the strength of our great community. To learn more about Pal Joey’s, check-out their website at www.paljoeysdeli.net or call to place your orders at (856) 415-9600 and (856) 415-9601.

Be sure to stop by and support this outstanding local eatery, as you won’t be disappointed. The Mayor’s go-to sandwiches are the Tavern ham and Swiss🧀, Chicken Salad and the Chicken Cutlet with broccoli rabe and long hots.

If you’d like to nominate a Mantua business to be featured on the “Mayor’s Business Spotlight” email Mayor Zimmerman at [email protected].

Last evening, Deputy Mayor Eileen Lukens and Committeeman Jay Snyder attended the Church of the Incarnation's celebration of Corpus Christi.

Reverend Stephen J. Rapposelli (Pastor) and Deacon Peter Traum led the Mass on Saturday evening followed by the traditional procession from the Catholic church down Main Street to the Mantua Township Municipal Building.

"Let's share the beauty of our Catholic faith with our neighbors. This is also a beautiful teaching moment for kids." - Incarnation Church

"It was so nice to have a church within our community praying for us as their elected leaders. They appreciate the work that we do for our community, and are partners with us for the greater good of Mantua and its residents. We value this relationship and thank Reverend Rapposelli, Deacon Traum and the entire congregation for their overwhelming support." - Deputy Mayor Lukens
