Yesterday’s election was one of the most challenging elections we have faced as Louisiana continues implementing the new Closed Party Primary system. Despite the challenges, long hours, and additional responsibilities placed on election workers, Sabine Parish once again showed what can be accomplished through dedication, teamwork, and public service.
I want to personally thank our election commissioners, poll workers, key custodians and machine technicians Kristy Knippers and Savannah Gilcrease for their patience, professionalism, and commitment to serving our voters. These individuals worked extremely long hours under stressful circumstances to ensure the election process ran smoothly and with integrity.
The responsibilities placed on commissioners continue to grow with every election cycle, and yesterday highlighted just how demanding their role truly is. HB 205, currently being discussed in the Legislature, would provide a much-needed pay raise for Election Commissioners. After seeing firsthand the work, dedication, and sacrifice these individuals make to serve our communities, I strongly support efforts to provide them the compensation they deserve.
A special thank you to Sabine Parish Registrar of Voters Zac Faircloth for his leadership, organization, and tireless work throughout the election process. I also want to recognize Chris Prescott with the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office for his continued support, guidance, and assistance during this election cycle.
I also want to extend a big thank you to the Sabine Parish Clerk of Court’s Office staff for their hard work, teamwork, and commitment throughout the entire election process. From preparation to election night and beyond, their dedication behind the scenes helped ensure a successful election for our parish.
I also want to thank the voters of Sabine Parish for their patience and understanding throughout the day. New procedures and changes can sometimes create confusion, but your kindness and cooperation were greatly appreciated.
Finally, thank you to everyone behind the scenes who helped make this election successful. Elections are never easy, but yesterday was another reminder that when people work together with integrity and dedication, we can successfully serve the people of Sabine Parish and the State of Louisiana.
