🖤REMEMBERING THE CHARLESTON 9🖤

On June 18, 2007, nine firefighters with the Charleston Fire Department began their shift like any other day. They answered the call to a commercial structure fire at the Sofa Super Store in Charleston, South Carolina. Tragically, all nine firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and never returned home.
As conditions rapidly deteriorated inside the building, firefighters became disoriented and trapped as fire spread through the showroom and warehouse areas. Intense heat, heavy smoke, and a sudden flashover created unsurvivable conditions, leading to the deadliest single incident for U.S. firefighters since September 11, 2001.
Today, we remember these nine heroes and the families they left behind. Their courage, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten!

☀️HEAT ADVISORY ISSUED☀️

The National Weather Service – Shreveport has issued a Heat Advisory for multiple areas throughout Louisiana, including Sabine Parish, from Noon until 7:00 PM this evening.
With heat index values expected to reach 109°F, residents are urged to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses

Today, Captain Corley and Firefighter Busby spent part of their day visiting homes throughout the district installing one of the most important safety devices every home should have—smoke alarms.
Did you know that if you or someone you know does not have working smoke alarms in their home, we can provide and install them free of charge?
Through our partnership with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Operation Save-A-Life Program, our department has been supplied with smoke alarms that are available to residents within the Central Sabine Fire District at no cost.

🚒FUTURE FIREFIGHTER VISITS CENTRAL🚒
Today we had the best visitor come hang out with us for a little while!
Our buddy Jaxsyn stopped by the station with a lot of questions and an even bigger smile. Firefighter Bedford gave him the full rundown of our apparatus, showed him where all the equipment is stored, explained radio communications, and answered every question he could think of. We're pretty sure Jaxsyn would have jumped on the truck with us if we had been dispatched during his visit!
Moments like these remind us why we love what we do. Sharing our passion for the fire service with the next generation is one of the most rewarding parts of the job, and seeing that excitement through a child's eyes never gets old.
Before leaving, Jaxsyn told us he'd be back soon for another visit—and we can't wait!!

🚨SAFETY NOTICE🚨
Our area is experiencing heavy rainfall that is expected to continue over the next 24 hours. We have already begun receiving reports of flooded roadways throughout the district.
Please use extreme caution if you must travel. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways, and never go around barricades or road closure signs.
Water levels can be deeper and moving faster than they appear, creating dangerous conditions for motorists.
If travel is not necessary, please stay off the roads until conditions improve.
If you find yourself in an unsafe emergency situation, call 911 immediately for assistance.
Your safety is our priority. Please stay weather-aware, monitor local conditions, and help keep yourself and your family safe.

❤️🚒MORNING VISITORS STOPPED BY🚒❤️
One of the best ways to start our morning is spending time with our littlest visitors!
Miss Viv and her Nana stopped by the station this morning for a tour and an up-close look at our fleet. These sweet guests got to check out Ladder 12 and Engine 12, and Viv wasted no time jumping right into the action!
She got to turn on the lights, work the siren, hit the air horn, listen to radio traffic between our crew and dispatch, and made sure everyone around knew just how excited she was by declaring, “This is so cool!”
Not to be outdone, Viv even convinced Nana to climb up into the trucks and explore all the bells and whistles right alongside her.
Thank you, Miss Viv and Nana, for brightening our morning and reminding us how special it is to share what we do with our community. We loved having you both visit and hope to see you again soon

🌫️☔️HURRICANE SEASON PREPAREDNESS☔️🌫️
As of June 1st, hurricane season is officially underway.
Over the last few years, our area has weathered some serious storms—days without electricity or water, crews working tirelessly to clear roadways, and first responders continuing daily operations while answering emergency calls.
Taking a few simple steps now can make a big difference when severe weather threatens our community. Staying prepared and knowing what to do ahead of time helps keep you and your family safe.
✅ Preparation Tips
• Know your local evacuation routes.
• Keep a 3–7 day supply of essential items, including food, water, medications, and batteries.
• Stay informed by monitoring local weather alerts and emergency notifications.
• Check on your neighbors, especially the elderly and those who may need additional assistance. Extreme heat and storm-related conditions can quickly become dangerous.
⚠️ Safety Reminders
• Never touch or attempt to move downed power lines. Always assume they are energized and dangerous.
• Never operate a generator inside your home, garage, or any enclosed space.
• Never drive through flooded roadways. Roads may be damaged, washed away, or deeper than they appear.
• Always have a way to communicate with family and friends, including a charged phone and backup power source if possible.

🚒📚SUMMER READING PROGRAM KICKOFF📚🚒
What a great time we had Friday at the Sabine Parish Library's Touch-A-Truck event to kick off the Summer Reading Program!
The event brought together several local agencies and organizations, including Acadian Ambulance, the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office, and a few others, all sharing information, handing out goodies, and interacting with members of our community. Mr. Lewing's SnoCones was also on site helping everyone beat the heat.
We enjoyed visiting with so many families throughout the day. Kids had the opportunity to tour the fire trucks, climb aboard the apparatus, take pictures, learn about the equipment we use, and even participate in a little friendly water gun action! Events like these provide a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with the community, answer questions, and help children become familiar with the firefighters and emergency responders who serve them.
One of the highlights of the day was seeing the excitement on the kids' faces, but we also had a firefighter who took a few minutes to renew his library card!
Building relationships with our community is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do, and seeing the smiles and excitement throughout the day made the event even more special.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Sabine Parish Library for hosting this fantastic event and for continually inviting us to be a part of their programs and community activities. We appreciate everything you do to bring families together, promote literacy, and encourage learning throughout the summer.

💥DRILL DAY HELD💥
We spent the morning out on the drill field sharpening our skills and expanding our knowledge. Continuous training is essential in the fire service, helping us stay prepared, work safely, and provide the highest level of service to our communities.
Today, FETA brought out the Roof Ventilation Prop, giving firefighters the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience with one of the most important fireground operations. Roof ventilation plays a critical role in controlling heat, smoke, and fire gases inside a structure. When performed correctly, ventilation can improve interior conditions for firefighters, increase visibility, reduce the risk of flashover, and assist with search, rescue, and fire suppression efforts.
Instructors Ryan and Josh provided excellent training on roof safety, ladders, tool selection, roof construction, sounding techniques, and several different ventilation cuts.
Members had the opportunity to practice proper techniques while learning the importance of communication, coordination, and situational awareness when operating on a roof during emergency incidents.
Training like this allows firefighters to build confidence, develop muscle memory, and safely perform critical skills before they are needed on the fireground.
The experience gained through realistic, hands-on training is invaluable and helps ensure we are ready when our community calls.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to FETA for providing these outstanding training opportunities, to instructors Ryan and Josh for sharing their knowledge and expertise, and to North Sabine Fire for the use of their training grounds.
We would also like to thank members of South Sabine Fire and North Sabine Fire who joined us this morning. The opportunity to train together strengthens relationships, improves interoperability, and makes all of our departments better prepared to serve the citizens we protect.

After meeting with the person who was alledgely denied water, Mr. Williams, it has been determined that there was no actual contact by him with firefighters of the Central Sabine Fire Department. By his own admission, Mr. Williams does not believe that the firefighter he spoke of ever saw him, as he was in the field behind the fire station. This matter is considered closed and, as always, every member of this department stands ready to assist all people of our community in whatever way the situation demands. On behalf of the men and women of the CSFD we thank you for your continued support.
