Many people are unfamiliar with aphasia, which is even more reason to highlight Aphasia Awareness Month.

• About 2 million Americans are living with aphasia, with around 180,000 diagnoses a year.
• Aphasia affects a person’s speech and language cognition abilities.
• It often occurs after a stroke or from progressive conditions like Alzheimer’s.
• Aphasia can impact anyone of any age, though older adults are most commonly affected.

Aphasia is sometimes mistaken for dementia, though individuals with aphasia retain memory and intellect but cannot express it. Visit the link in the comments if you’d like to learn more.

“My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece.” ― Claude Monet

Our Willows of Arbor Lakes residents created some beautiful masterpieces in our community with a recent gardening activity. We planted marigolds, petunias, and other colorful flowers as well as decorative grass in large planters around our community. We can’t wait to watch them flourish!

Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the country, with more than 50 million adults suffering with joint pain. It is most common in seniors, as aging and previous injuries make older adults more prone to joint inflammation.

Since May is Arthritis Awareness Month, we want to highlight some ways to reduce arthritis pain.

• Low-impact exercises like walking, biking, or swimming can improve joint function.
• Heating pads or warm baths can alleviate stiffness.
• Foods like tart cherries, colorful veggies, walnuts, seafood, and garlic provide anti-inflammatory benefits.
