MYTH: You have 10–15 minutes to escape a house fire.

REALITY: Modern homes can become deadly in as little as 2–3 minutes.

Today’s furniture and materials burn faster and hotter than ever before. Have an escape plan and practice it with your family. Know two ways out of every room.

Today we recognize the ones who run toward what everyone else runs from.

On International Firefighters’ Day, we honor the courage, grit, and sacrifice of our firefighters—volunteers who drop everything, day or night, to protect this community.

Behind every call is a family, a job left mid-shift, and a commitment that never clocks out.

We’re proud to serve.

Low blood sugar, stroke, head injury, or infection can all cause altered mental status. Never assume. Call for help, especially if the person isn't able to confirm whether or not they have a medical condition.

You’ve probably heard the term “Jaws of Life” — but what does it actually mean?

It’s not just one tool. It’s a set of hydraulic rescue tools designed to help us safely remove people from vehicles after serious accidents.

Here’s what that includes:
🔧 Spreaders
Used to pry open doors or create space in a crushed vehicle

✂️ Cutters
Powerful enough to cut through metal like door frames and roof supports

➡️ Rams
Used to push parts of a vehicle apart to free trapped patients

These tools are powered by hydraulics, which means they generate extreme force - enough to move metal, but controlled carefully to protect the person inside.

🚑 Our priority during any crash is simple:
Get to the patient, keep them stable, and remove them as safely as possible. That’s why we train regularly on extrication techniques — every situation is different, and every second matters.

Push hard. Push fast. Call 911.

After a multitude of grass fires in Wright County yesterday - it’s time to remind everyone that we are once again under a Red Flag Warning! Please do not burn fields, waste, etc during this time to keep everyone safe.

Today, much of Minnesota is under a Red Flag Warning — meaning fire danger is EXTREME.

This isn’t just “be careful.” This is conditions where one small spark can turn into a fast-moving, uncontrollable fire within minutes.

🔥 What’s causing it:
• Dry conditions
• Low humidity
• Strong winds

🔥 What that means for you:
• NO burning - including brush piles or debris
• Avoid anything that creates sparks (trailers dragging chains, outdoor equipment, etc.)
• Properly dispose of ci******es (don’t toss them out your window)
• Keep vehicles off dry grass

We’ve already seen how quickly fires can spread in conditions like this… and once they take off, they put homes, property, and lives at risk.

💥 If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

This is what we bring with us when a fire call comes in.

Helmet.
Gloves.
Boots.
Air tank.
Mask.
Tools.

Nearly 70 pounds of gear — worn in heat, smoke, chaos, and conditions most people will never see.

But the weight isn’t the hardest part.

It’s the responsibility.
It’s knowing someone is having the worst day of their life…
and we’re showing up to it.

Every piece of this gear has a purpose.
Every second matters.
Every call is different.

We train for it.
We prepare for it.
We carry it - so you don’t have to.

🚒 We hope you never need us.
But if you do… we’re ready.
