Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865—the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Today, Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, culture, community, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

At Maple Lake Library, we believe books help us learn from the past, understand one another, and celebrate the diverse stories that shape our communities. This Juneteenth, we invite you to explore these titles and learn more about the history and significance of this important day.
