"[State workers] tried to talk about fraud and they were retaliated against badly, really badly, like their jobs were threatened, their careers were threatened, their children were threatened, their families were threatened.

"There's no wonder why we had fraud on a rampant scale here in Minnesota."

To ask the question is NOT racist:

Rasmussen: I think it’s a genuine question that some of our viewers have, but maybe some are afraid to ask because they don’t want to be perceived as being racist or biased.

Dr. Ahmed Samatar: Oh, I think they should ask. I think they should ask. Part of being citizens of the same country, civic association as Americans – And it’s a deep tradition that goes into this country – The pointing, and trying to bring out to the open, things that might be corrosive to the collective welfare is legitimate… It is about civic goodness.

A 5 INVESTIGATES review examined a common theme in Minnesota fraud cases: many defendants are of Somali descent. We dig into the data and get perspective from a local professor.

The governor should establish an incident command center and a dedicated hotline staffed by experienced DHS personnel to rapidly address provider concerns and ensure vulnerable Minnesotans continue receiving the critical services they depend on.

Gov. Walz, his administration, and AG Ellison looked the other way time after time as “industrial-scale” fraud has ripped through our state programs. House Republicans created the Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy when we gained power in the House prior to this biennium to address this problem. I personally reached out to the DHS whistleblowers and became their voice on the committee. Later, I advised the Congressional Oversight Committee on who to interview to collect affidavits and testimony in front of their committee.

It took courage for these whistleblowers to come forward and share what they knew despite potential risks. These state workers already had suffered retaliation with their jobs and their families threatened. I can’t thank them enough for their bravery and this story is only unfolding because of their willingness to stand up for fellow taxpayers. Government officials must be held accountable for complicit acts or sheer negligence allowing fraud to run rampant in our state and these whistleblowers are the reason we’re making progress in that regard. https://alphanews.org/vance-refers-fraud-allegations-involving-minnesota-governor-ag-for-doj-investigation/?fbclid=IwY2xjawSVRFBleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEefLZ7wN2LLxh_N15qCJSmTMwFWQNMX2CCRCS-SVcQQI6In4jIyuuCFj5L6sk_aem_X1RU3AM3Htats3ioY4OkjA

"The report issued on Monday claims senior state officials knew of systemic fraud as early as 2019, but did not stop payments to suspicious providers."

The U.S. House Oversight Committee is accusing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison of "one of the most stunning oversight failures" regarding the handling of taxpayer fraud in federally funded social programs.

Some quick thoughts regarding why it is so important that we approved legislation to create a new Office of the Inspector General to get a handle on the massive fraud problem that has rocked our state:
