Construction Update – Week of August 31

Construction activities will continue throughout the project area during the week of August 31.

Planned work includes:
• Water main work on Delano Avenue and Spring Avenue
• Continued water service connections on Main Street
• Continued storm sewer installation
• Seal coating on Gateway Boulevard, Main Street West, Rainbow Avenue, & Oak Street

Residents and motorists should expect construction equipment, temporary access restrictions, and changing traffic patterns in affected areas. Please use caution when traveling through work zones, follow all posted signs, and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather, site conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as crews continue making progress on these important infrastructure improvements.

West Hennepin Public Safety is offering a limited number of free child passenger safety seats and booster seats to qualifying families through its 2026 grant program.

Eligible caregivers will also receive guidance from a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician to help ensure the seat is appropriate for their child and installed and used correctly.

**FREE Child Passenger Safety Seats Available!**
West Hennepin Public Safety is offering a limited number of **free child passenger safety seats and booster seats** to qualifying families through the 2026 Car Seat and Booster Seat Grant Program.

Families who receive a seat will also receive child passenger safety education and guidance from a **Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST)** to help ensure the seat is appropriate for the child and used correctly.

Eligibility is based on financial need, and seats will be provided **at no cost** to qualifying caregivers.

Nathan Pearson Appointed to Maple Plain City Council

The City of Maple Plain is pleased to announce the appointment of Nathan Pearson to the Maple Plain City Council.

At its August 24, 2026 meeting, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2026-0824-02, appointing Pearson to fill the Council vacancy created by the resignation of former Councilmember Connie Francis. Pearson will serve the remainder of the unexpired term, which runs through December 31, 2026, and assumed his duties upon taking the oath of office.

Pearson brings experience in public works and municipal operations to the City Council. Pearson shared that his professional experience has provided him with firsthand knowledge of municipal operations, infrastructure needs, and the importance of responsive local government. He also emphasized his commitment to transparent leadership, thoughtful decision-making, and ensuring residents' voices are heard.

As a Councilmember, Pearson stated that he hopes to draw upon his municipal experience to help the Council make informed decisions, carefully consider information presented by City staff, listen to residents and fellow Councilmembers, and work collaboratively toward long-term solutions that serve the best interests of the Maple Plain community.

Construction Update- Highway 12 Temporary Lane Shift

Following approval from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Kuechle Construction will begin a temporary lane shift on Highway 12 starting late Monday morning.

Crews will place traffic-control barrels and shift traffic to accommodate construction activities. Two lanes of traffic will remain open on Highway 12; however, the center turn lane will be temporarily closed while the lane shift is in place.

What Drivers Should Expect
• Two lanes of traffic will remain open.
• The center turn lane will be temporarily closed.
• Traffic-control barrels and signage will guide motorists through the lane shift.
• Drivers should use caution, reduce speeds, and allow additional travel time when traveling through the construction area.

The City appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as work continues. Construction schedules and traffic-control measures may change based on project conditions.

Highway 12 is back open as crews remain on scene continuing utility work. Please use caution while driving through the area. Residents who had been evacuated can return to their residences. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

**URGENT**

Please avoid the area of Highway 12 between Halgren Road and Budd Avenue in Maple Plain. The road is closed and traffic is being rerouted due to a gas leak.

Highway 12 Closed Due to Broken Gas Main at Delano Avenue

City of Maple Plain — August 20, 2026

Highway 12 is currently closed in the area of Delano Avenue due to a broken gas main. As a precautionary measure, several nearby homes and businesses have been evacuated while emergency crews and utility personnel respond to the incident.

Residents and motorists are urged to avoid the area, follow all traffic-control instructions, and use alternate routes until further notice.

Emergency responders and utility crews are working to secure the area and address the gas main break. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Do not enter evacuated areas until officials have confirmed that it is safe to return.

Reminder: W**d Spraying and Fertilizing at City Parks on August 24th, 2026

This is a reminder that the City of Maple Plain will be conducting w**d spraying and fertilizing treatments at several City parks on Monday, August 24th, 2026.

The following parks are scheduled for treatment:
• Rainbow Park
• Veterans Memorial Park
• Bryantwood Park
• Tot Lot

These treatments are part of the City’s regular park maintenance program and help maintain healthy turf, control w**ds, and improve the overall appearance and usability of City park facilities.

Residents are encouraged to use caution when visiting these parks during and immediately following treatment activities. Temporary signage may be posted at each location.

The City of Maple Plain appreciates the community’s cooperation and understanding as we work to keep our parks clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.
