We could not be prouder of the work being done by our West Metro Drug Task Force. The team was recently recognized as the Task Force of the Year by the Minnesota State Association of Narcotics Investigators. The award says it best, “In recognition of unwavering dedication, exceptional teamwork, and outstanding commitment to protecting our communities and combating illegal narcotics”. That’s what this team does each and every day. Way to go WMDTF!!

Today, we honor those who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends, we remember that the peace and freedoms we enjoy were secured by those who stood ready to defend them. We are grateful for their legacy and for the strength of the families they left behind.

From all of us at West Hennepin Public Safety, we humbly honor our fallen heroes and reaffirm our commitment to serving our community with the same dedication and integrity they exemplified.

We have fielded some questions and some concerns about e-bikes lately so we thought we would put out some information that will help everyone understand the rules for use of the different pieces of equipment. Bicycles with motors may be classified as an E-Bike or a Motorized Bicycle depending on their specifications and it is critical to know the difference. State statute is clear on requirements for each and it is the rider’s responsibility to know what those requirements are. Parents and caregivers are asked to help their children understand the requirements as well. Safe and responsible riding is necessary, regardless of what is being used.

Tonight, we had the honor of attending the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Academy graduation to support one of West Hennepin’s newest Reserve Officers, Austin Ward, as he officially completed the 2026 Spring Reserve School.

Chief DuRose, Sgt. Ebeling, and Reserve Coordinator Zilles were proud to be there as Austin graduated alongside reserve officers from agencies across Hennepin County.

The academy included weeks of evening training covering procedural justice, use of force, radio communications, report writing, crime scene preservation, CPR/first aid, and more. Participants also completed hands-on defensive tactics and scenario-based training designed to prepare them for the responsibilities of public safety service.

Reserve officers serve as unpaid volunteers, dedicating their personal time to training and supporting their communities. Completing the academy requires a significant commitment and reflects a strong desire to serve others and give back.

Austin has already shown a strong commitment to serving the community, balancing the demands of academy training while beginning his service with West Hennepin Public Safety. We appreciate the time, effort, and dedication he has invested in preparing for this role and look forward to having him continue to grow within our Reserve Program.

Please join us in congratulating Reserve Officer Austin Ward on this accomplishment!
