Siuslaw Watershed Council Working together to steward the lands and waters of the Siuslaw

05/29/2026

The tides have returned.

After two decades of partnership building, project development, design, and implementation, the levee at haich ikt’at’uu has been breached to restore bi-directional flow and estuarine habitat for salmonids and other species.

Congratulations to our partners at Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians and McKenzie River Trust, and to numerous others who have contributed time, talent, and treasure to this restoration effort!

Thank you to everyone who attended the 4th annual Siuslaw Estuary Cleanup, held in partnership with McKenzie River Trust ! Over the course of the four hour event volunteers removed river-borne trash from Wilbur Island including a refrigerator, water heater, and section of dock. Volunteers also removed invasive species such as scotch broom, ivy, and gorse, helping steward our critical estuary ecosystems.

A big thank you to County Transfer and Recycling for the donation of a roll-off dumpster, Buck's Sanitary service for the donation of a portable toilet, Port of Siuslaw Florence Oregon for the use of their facilities, and Don Wilbur LTD for access to the cleanup site.
