To: All Sterling Township Residents
From: SterlingTownship Board Members
The township board would like to remind township residents that its semi-annual trash collection will take place from September 7-10. There will be the usual three dumpsters located on the front lawn of the Old Sterling Town Hall.
As a reminder, the township will not pay for the disposal of the following items:
pressurized tanks of any kind
florescent lighting
appliances including microwaves and dehumidifiers
yard waste
computers/monitors/printers/televisions
any electronics
batteries
tires of any kind with or without rims
large implement tires
springed furniture including mattresses, box springs, couches, love seats, chairs
hazardous materials including paint, solvents, liquids, needles, medicine
railroad tires or pressure treated lumber
If you have any of these listed items for disposal, you must contact the Ponderosa Landfill Customer Service building. At this site, you may drop off mattresses or box springs which will then be sent to 7 Rivers Recycling in Onalaska, WI where the mattress and box springs are disassembled and recycled. 80% of the mattresses or box springs components can be recycled. The cost to drop of either of these items is $22.00. Similarly, the cost for recycling appliances is $21 for most items but furnaces, fridges and freezers cost $26 to recycle. Electronics are also recycled at the service center and are recycled through Green Tech Recycling. You must have proof of residency in order to drop off these products. The cost is $5.00 for each of the first five items and then $15 per items for all other electronics. Documents can also be brought to the center for destruction and is free to all Blue Earth County residents. Up to two banker’s boxes can be dropped off at a time. Large loads will not be accepted. All shredded paper from documents is recycled.
As a further service, Ponderosa Landfill will accept bagged garbage drop off at a cost of $6.00 for up to five bags and $11 for bags 6-10.
Each township resident is encouraged to follow these rules to abate the cost of the semi-annual trash collection and to dispose of the afore mentioned products responsibly. Please call or text Clerk Barbara Lake if you have questions or concerns at (763)218-6990, email at [email protected] or FB messenger via the Sterling Township FB page. `
