Welcome Engineer Paramedic Brian Fish! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

Last week at the Mapleton City Council meeting, we had the opportunity to officially swear in Brian Fish as one of Mapleton Fire Rescueโ€™s new full-time Fire Engineers.

Brian brings nearly three decades of fire service experience to Mapleton. He began his career as a volunteer firefighter in Arizona before moving to Utah and earning his fire service certifications and associate degrees in Fire Science and Paramedic Medicine.

Brian went on to serve 25 years with Provo Fire & Rescue, gaining extensive experience and numerous certifications and specialties throughout his career. After retiring from Provo and spending two years away from the fire service, Brian realized how much he missed the camaraderie, teamwork, and opportunity to serve, so in early 2026, he joined Mapleton Fire Rescue as a part-time Firefighter Paramedic.

We are excited to now have Brian serving our community as a full-time Engineer Paramedic. His experience, knowledge, and commitment to service will be a tremendous asset to our department and the citizens of Mapleton.

Please join us in congratulating Engineer Paramedic Brian Fish on his new position and welcoming him to this next chapter of his fire service career!

Congratulations, Brian! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

MIRACLE IN MAPLETON

Tonight, the Mapleton City Council recognized members of Mapleton Fire Rescue, Mapleton Police Department, and Mapleton Public Works for their extraordinary response to the June 11 trench collapse on the south end of our city.

Background: A worker installing a residential sewer line approximately nine feet below ground was completely buried when the trench collapsed. Despite the tremendous weight of the soil, a small air pocket allowed the trapped individual to breathe and communicate with rescuers.

For more than 97 minutes, personnel from multiple agencies worked together through an extremely dangerous and technically complex rescue. Because of their training, courage, and cooperation, the individual was successfully removed from the trench alive and transferred to Life Flight.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Springville Mapleton Public Safety Dispatch, Central Utah 911, Life Flight, the Utah County Special Response Team, and the trench rescue specialists and resources from Provo, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, Spanish Fork, Springville, and Utah County Fire.

This outcome was not the result of one person, one agency, or one piece of equipment. Every person had a role. Every role mattered. Every second mattered.

Tonight, we proudly recognized these dedicated public servants for making a difference and saving a life.

A true Miracle in Mapleton

Mapleton Multifamily Structure Fire

Just after 6:00 p.m. today, units from Mapleton Fire, Spanish Fork Fire, Springville Fire, and Provo Fire responded to a reported multifamily structure fire on the south end of town.

Upon arrival, crews found light smoke coming from a first floor garage and quickly extinguished a small fire involving personal belongings and an interior garage wall. Several residential units were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. There was no fire extension into the living spaces, and all residents have safely returned to their homes.

The fire was determined to have been caused by improperly discarded charcoal briquettes from a barbecue. The garage fire sprinkler system activated and helped control the fire until firefighters arrived.

Safety reminder: Charcoal can remain hot enough to ignite a fire long after use. Always allow charcoal and ashes to cool completely before disposal, and place them in a metal container away from combustible materials.

We extend our sincere thanks to our mutual aid partners for their quick and coordinated response to todayโ€™s incident.

Today, Mapleton Fire Rescue was honored to stand alongside our brothers and sisters from across Utah as we participated in the honor procession escorting Provo Fire Captain Spencer Long and his beloved family to Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork.

Mapleton Fire Rescue shares a deep connection with Provo Fire Rescue, and many of our members knew Spencer and his family personally. This tragedy has touched our department in a very personal way.

It was an honor to pay our respects and stand in support of the Long family, Provo Fire Rescue, and the entire public safety community.

Please continue to keep the Long family and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss in your thoughts and prayers.

๐ŸŽ† **Today is the first day fireworks may be legally discharged in Mapleton.**

Before you celebrate, **check the updated fireworks restriction map.** Recent changes have further limited where fireworks may be used to help reduce the risk of wildfire during these extremely hot and dry conditions.

If you choose to use fireworks, please do so responsibly:

โœ… Use only legal Utah fireworks.
โœ… Stay within the approved discharge areas.
โœ… Keep a hose or water source nearby.
โœ… Ensure adult supervision at all times.

โš ๏ธ **Remember:** Even if you're using legal fireworks in an approved area, **you are responsible for the outcome.** If your fireworks cause a fire, injury, or property damage, you may be subject to criminal prosecution and held financially responsible for all resulting damages, including fire suppression and emergency response costs.

**Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.** The map identifies lower-risk areasโ€”not risk-free areas.

We'll continue monitoring weather and fire conditions throughout the holiday. If conditions change, restrictions may become more restrictive, and the interactive map will be updated.
