Growing up in Maplewood, I learned an important Minnesota value: respect. That value leads me to give everyone a fair chance -- I served as chair of the Maplewood Human Rights Commission. Respect leads me to support education and opportunities for youth -- I served as a school board parents' representative and as a Boy Scout leader. And respect leads me to protect our environment -- while chairing

the Maplewood Parks and Recreation Commission, I was honored with the Public Service Award from Ramsey County's Friends of the Parks and Trails. Respect and a commitment to our community have led me to my current role, directing operations at a shelter serving homeless youth. Before I came, the shelter was facing severe financial difficulties as a result of state budget cuts. Drawing on my 30 years of management experience in the private sector and my degrees at Lakewood (now Century) Community College and the University of St. Thomas, I reformed processes, found efficiencies, and led the shelter back to financial health.
