The bridge across Prairie Creek for the trail to Prairie Creek Recreation Area was installed last week. Construction continues for the northeast side of the park - picnic shelter, parking lot, paved trail, and restrooms all part of the new features. Come and learn more about the park enhancement project at an event this Saturday, October 25 between 1:00-3:00 pm. We are excited for the new park additions at our county park - Prairie Creek Recreation Area - as part of the Prairie Creek Enhancement Project!! As we wrap up these new features, we are holding a public kick-off celebration at the park on Saturday, October 25 from 1:00-3:00 PM.

This $2.7 million project has been more than two years in the making. We worked with the City of Maquoketa and the Jackson County Board of Supervisors to bring some great enhancements to the park.

Our hope is to encourage outdoor recreation, provide opportunities for the community, while bringing visitors to the area, and promote the economic vitality of businesses serving visitors to the park.

We are still working to complete the project by the end of the year. We welcome the community to join us October 25 in learning about the new park features and celebrating these improvements.

We have FREE trees available, leftover from our Earth Day event yesterday. Red oak and black walnut species available. These trees are small and fit in a brown paper bag, which we will provide. Stop by the Hurstville Interpretive Center between 9:00-4:00 today or Thursday to pick up. We have LOTS of trees available!

We've received two grants to improve river access at two of our parks this year!

Spruce Creek Park just north of Bellevue on the Mississippi River - replace concrete boat ramp.
Bridgeport Access near Maquoketa on the Maquoketa River - reconstruct access for boats and paddlers.

We are seeking donations to help with match money for these grants. Link in comments with more details and to donate online.

Thank you for your support!

Thank you!

Cheers to outdoor recreation & education! 🍻

You guys remember our friend Tony, right? He helped us tap some trees for some real maple sap that was used in our Sad Sappy Sucker! We were able to donate the proceeds from that yummy sap inspired brew back to the Jackson County Conservation!

For those of you who don’t know what the JCO Conservation is, they provide education opportunities & encourage the development & conservation of natural resources! How neat! 🌾

They also manage 38 individual parks, natural areas, timber preserves, historic sites, river accesses, and campgrounds-covering about 2,200 acres across the county! πŸ•
