🌎✨ Join us tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. for a special ranger-led hike in celebration of Earth Day!

We’ll explore a 1.5-mile trail through uneven terrain as we journey into a rare and unique rockland hammock.
Did you know this park is one of the few remaining undisturbed upland sites in the Middle Keys and protects one of the largest populations of thatch palms in the United States? 🌴

Get ready for an adventure! Be sure to bring water, wear closed-toe shoes, and consider bug spray and sunscreen.

We can’t wait to explore with you! 🌿

Afterwards we will meet at Long Key State Park at noon for a ranger led hike along the 1.1 mile nature trail which winds through four different natural communities.

Shoutout to our amazing volunteers — the Curry Cruisin’ Team! 🚲⚡🌴

Day in and day out, this dedicated group of volunteers exemplify teamwork, positivity, and a true passion for helping others. From keeping our restrooms spotless and campsites welcoming, to assisting staff and visitors with a smile, perform maintenance tasks, and ensure our nature trails remain clear, safe, and easily accessible, they help keep the park running smoothly behind the scenes every single day.

Their hard work, reliability, and willingness to jump in wherever needed truly make a difference. Whether they’re lending a helping hand, or tackling the tasks that often go unseen, they are always “wheel-y” dependable and full of heart.

Because of the Curry Cruisin’ Team, visitors feel welcomed, supported, and able to fully enjoy the natural beauty of Curry Hammock State Park.

We are so grateful for your dedication, your teamwork, and the positive energy you bring each and every day.
Watt a team! ⚡💚

Congratulations, Volunteers! 🎉

On Wednesday, Curry Hammock hosted an unforgettable Volunteer Appreciation Event celebrating all of D5. With over 190 attendees, the day was filled with great food, lively entertainment, kayak tours, and guided hikes — all set against the beautiful backdrop of Curry Hammock State Park.

This special event was more than just a gathering — it was a heartfelt tribute to the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and passion to serve our parks and community. Our volunteers are the welcoming smiles at visitor centers, the helping hands on conservation projects, the knowledgeable guides on hikes and tours, and the steady support behind countless programs and events. They dedicate hours to preserving natural resources, enhancing visitor experiences, and ensuring our parks remain safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.

Their commitment reflects a true spirit of stewardship. Whether assisting with educational programs, maintaining trails, supporting special events, or simply offering a friendly greeting, each volunteer plays a vital role in strengthening District 5. The impact of their service reaches far beyond a single day — it helps protect our natural treasures and inspires future generations to care for them.

A sincere thank you to all District staff who helped make this event fun, safe, and beautiful. Your teamwork and dedication created a meaningful celebration worthy of our outstanding volunteers.

To every volunteer in the Florida State Parks: we appreciate you, we value you, and we are grateful for all that you do! 🌿💙

Good afternoon,

To commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, Governor Ron DeSantis designated George Washington’s birthday as a state holiday. In addition, in honor of Washington’s birthday, Florida State Parks will be offering free admission to all state parks, excluding Skyway Fishing Pier State Park and Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park, from Feb. 13-16, 2026. The Monroe County surcharge and all fees beyond entrance – such as overnight accommodations, concessions and rentals from park vendors – will remain in effect.

You will receive an email soon from the Bureau of Operational Services providing needed information regarding point-of-sale changes for Washington’s birthday weekend admission.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your park manager or district office as appropriate.

Thank you all for making this weekend – and every day – special for our visitors. Park staff are just as valuable a resource as our natural and cultural resources, and we couldn’t do it without you.

Thanks for all you do,

Chuck

🌿 Explore the Nature Trail at Curry Hammock State Park! 🌿

February is Florida Hiking Trails Month, the perfect time to get outside and enjoy Florida’s trails!

Check out the Curry Hammock State Park nature trail, located across the street from the main park entrance, about 1 mile west.
🚗 Parking is available off the roadway on the right-hand side.

🥾 This is a moderate, rugged trail, with uneven footing and exposed limestone—sturdy shoes are recommended.

🌴 The trail winds through thatch palm hammock and rockland hammock, unique Florida Keys habitats where native palms and hardwoods grow directly from limestone and provide shelter for wildlife.

💚 Come out to exercise, enjoy nature, and support our state parks.
📍 Stop by the ranger station for more information.
📱 A QR code is located at the head of the trail for easy payment of the park entrance fee.
