Bti is a larvicide derived from soil bacteria that only affects mosquito larvae. It is mixed with water and applied as a mist via FKMCD helicopter. This treatment is effective for preventing all types of mosquito development including the Aedes aegypti which is the prime vector for multiple diseases including Dengue Fever and Chikungunya. FL Keys Mosquito Control is keeping a watchful eye on the influx of Dengue Fever cases within the state of Florida the last several weeks. As of this writing there are NO locally acquired Dengue cases in the Keys but it merits repeating that the best way to prevent Dengue is to prevent the mosquito that spreads it!!! The Aedes aegypti.

Remember: Aedes aegypti is a town mosquito. Years of evolution have taught them to live and breed around humans almost exclusively.

NOW is the best time to make an effort to regularly survey your yard and dump out any standing water. Paying special attention to:

Boat Tarps
Boat or personal watercraft bilges
Drip pans that catch ac condensation
Water dishes for pets
Water holding plants (BROMELIADS) or trivets
Pools or water features that are not in use.

FKMCD is always here to help with locating and eliminating current and potential habitats. Place a request for service any time: Keysmosquito.org
