🆕🆕*AERIAL LIQUID LARVICIDE KEY WEST WEDNESDAY*
FKMCD has scheduled an Aerial Liquid Larvicide using Bti + water, for WEDNESDAY, 6/24/26, Between 6:30 am & 9:30 am over:
1. KEY WEST
Bti is a larvicide derived from soil bacteria that only affects mosquito larvae. It is mixed with water and applied as a very fine mist via FKMCD helicopter. This treatment is effective for preventing all types of mosquito development including the Aedes aegypti which is the prime vector for Dengue Fever in the Florida Keys. It is particularly effective after a significant rain.

⏰‼️📣NEW: AERIAL ADULTICIDE UPPER KEYS TUESDAY MORNING!!
Due to an abundance of biting, adult mosquitoes, the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District has scheduled an AERIAL ADULTICIDE TREATMENT using naled, Tuesday, 6/23/26, between 6:00 a.m. & 9:30 a.m. over:
Upper Key Largo, Middle Key Largo, Ocean Reef (MP 98-MP 106.5)
The AERIAL ADULTICIDE MISSION will utilize helicopters and the insecticide naled which is used as part of FKMCD's integrated pest management program when the population of adult mosquitoes reach an unacceptable level. Naled is a non-persistent product that breaks down rapidly when applied in the manner of application employed by FKMCD.

MOSQUITO CONTROL AWARENESS 2026
Mosquitoes aren’t just a nuisance; they’re a serious public health threat. Vector-borne diseases like West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and dengue are spreading across the U.S. at an alarming rate. The Florida Keys have experienced two significant outbreaks of Dengue Fever, the most recent sickened dozens of people in Key Largo in 2021.

We don’t have to accept this as the status quo. It’s time for yesterday’s threat to meet today’s solutions.

Florida Keys Mosquito Control District Offices will be closed on Friday, June 19, in recognition of Juneteenth. Offices will reopen on Monday for regular business. Requests for mosquito control service can be made anytime via the website: keysmosquito.org

During this week's monthly FKMCD Board Meeting, several employees were recognized for recent achievements.

First, Middle Keys Mechanic Bob Svoboda was on hand to accept special certificate in honor of Automotive Service Professionals Month. Bob accepted the certificate on behalf of a talented team that is comprised of himself along with: Roberto Alvarenga, Bob McGregor and Joe Sheriff.

Next, Mosquito Trap Technician Alana Loftus was recognized for five years of service.

Finally, Director of Aerial Operations Robert Lee was recognized for 10 years of service.

FKMCD will be applying GRANULAR LARVICIDE, Wednesday, 6/17/26, between 1:00 p.m. & 5:00 p.m. over: Middle Key Largo, Plantation Key.
The FKMCD Helicopters are dispersing granular Bti, a soil bacteria/larvicide that only affects mosquito larvae in water. More at keysmosquito.org FIGHT THE BITE-DUMP THE WATER!
