⚡ TRIVIA TUESDAY ANSWER REVEALED! ⚡

The correct answer is B) 1907!

When Marblehead's first electric light plant opened in 1895, electricity was supplied to just 36 buildings, and operations followed a "moonlight schedule," with service influenced by the phases of the moon.

That all changed in 1907, when electricity became available in Marblehead 24 hours a day!

We've come a long way in nearly 120 years of around-the-clock service, but our commitment to keeping Marblehead powered remains the same.

Two weeks ago, we opened our doors to the community and shared a little of MMLD's history.

When Marblehead's first electric light plant (pictured here) began operating in 1895, it supplied electricity to just 36 buildings in town. Back then, the plant operated on a "moonlight schedule," meaning its hours were determined in part by the amount of natural light provided by the moon!

FLASHBACK FRIDAY!

Earlier this week, we shared a photo of our MMLD line crew standing proudly in front of one of our bucket trucks.

A lot has changed over the years, from the equipment we use to the trucks that keep our crews moving. While the technology has evolved, our commitment to keeping Marblehead powered has remained the same!

Last week’s Public Power Week Open House was a great opportunity to showcase MMLD, but there’s one team we didn’t get to highlight—our line crew! ⚡

Rain or shine, day or night, our dedicated lineworkers are out in the field maintaining our electrical system, responding to outages, and keeping the lights on for Marblehead.

They’re the backbone of our operations and a big part of what makes public power so special: local people serving their own community.

We're proud of the work they do every day to keep Marblehead powered!

What a great day of community and public power! ⚡

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our MMLD Open House. Our 9 AM, noon, and 3 PM tours gave community members a chance to meet our staff and ask questions about everything from meter installations and power capacity to mutual aid and the history of the department.

We also took public power into the classroom! Our Distribution Manager and newest apprentice linemen visited third graders at Glover and Brown Schools to talk about the work we do every day to keep Marblehead powered.

We’re incredibly proud to be owned by the people of Marblehead and grateful for the community we serve.

As part of Public Power Week, MMLD is opening our doors tomorrow and inviting the community to stop by, meet our team, and get a behind-the-scenes look at your locally owned electric utility.

MMLD OFFICE CLOSURE NOTIFICATION

The Marblehead Municipal Light Department will be closed on Monday, October 12th, to observe and celebrate the Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day holidays. We will reopen on Tuesday, October 13th, at 7:30am. Please enjoy a safe holiday weekend.
