🏡 ATTENTION: Coming Monday: The New Z-Loan Program

Beginning August 31, Marblehead residents will be able to apply for affordable financing for qualifying home energy improvements including heat pumps, insulation, heat-pump water heaters and certain pre-weatherization repairs.

Through the DOER Z-Loan Program, eligible homeowners may finance up to $25,000 per property, with repayment terms of up to five years.

The online application will be available beginning Monday. In the meantime, customers with questions may contact [email protected].

Thursday Meter Check: Take a Look Before Trouble Starts

When was the last time you checked your electric meter enclosure? Taking a few minutes to inspect it at least once a year can help catch problems before they become safety hazards or costly repairs.

Keep an eye out for:

Rust or corrosion
Cracks or broken parts
Signs of water or moisture damage
Any other visible deterioration

If your meter enclosure looks like either of the examples shown, do not touch or open it. Contact a licensed electrician as soon as possible to have it inspected and replaced. Please note that MMLD cannot recommend a particular electrician.

Not sure where your meter is? If your electric service comes from a utility pole, follow the wires to your house and then down the exterior wall. You can also check around the perimeter of your home or call us for assistance.

A damaged meter enclosure can allow water to enter, creating a potential safety risk and damaging electrical equipment.

⚡ Apparently, we’re making these Trivia Tuesday questions too easy--everyone but one person got it right!

The correct answer is B. The current decreases.

When electricity is transmitted at a higher voltage, less current is needed to deliver the same amount of power. Lower current also means less energy is lost as heat along the way, making high-voltage transmission more efficient.

Thanks to everyone who participated! We may have to make next week’s question a little tougher.

REMINDER: Rail Trail Work Notice
Mayer Tree Service will be performing vegetation-management work along the utility corridor from the Village Substation through to Swampscott and Salem lines.
Work is scheduled as follows:
• August 24–28: Mowing throughout the utility corridor
• August 31–September 1: Tree trimming along the overhead power lines

We know we’re still quite a way from winter—and believe us, we’re not trying to rush it!—but a recent discovery in our archives took us back to one of Marblehead’s most memorable storms.

While looking through our archives, our head meter technician, Robin, discovered an old album filled with newspaper articles and photographs from 1978—including coverage of the Blizzard of ’78.

The historic storm brought enormous waves, deep snow and widespread damage to Marblehead, leaving behind scenes that longtime residents have never forgotten.
