Weather Alert! We have some high winds rolling through the area today.

* WHAT...Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

* WHERE...Portions of north central, northeast, and northwest Ohio.

* WHEN...From noon today to 7 PM EST this evening.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Dangerous Ice Conditions Alert! ❄️

As temperatures warm and strong south/southwest winds pick up, cracks are expected to form, which can lead to ice floes and potentially strand mariners.

If you’re planning to head out to areas with ice or snow-covered surfaces, please proceed with extreme caution. The ice on Lake Erie is thin and unstable in many areas, creating hazardous conditions for walking, snowmobiles/ATVs, and outdoor activities.

✔️ Do not venture onto the ice unless it has been properly tested and is deemed safe.
✔️ Wear a lifejacket or float coat and dress appropriately for the conditions.
✔️ Always notify a friend or family member before heading out on the ice and keep them updated if your plans change.
✔️ Keep a close eye on children and pets when outside.

The ice in Lake Erie has been determined yesterday to have weak spots that are not strong enough to withstand heavy machinery. Also, with the rising temperatures and the wind shifting to the SW over the weekend, people recreating on the ice should be extremely cautious!

🚨🚨🚨 BE ADVISED! 🚨🚨🚨

The CIVFD, U.S. Coast Guard Station Marblehead, OH, and Port Clinton Fire & Rescue have already responded to two separate calls this morning for multiple ice fishermen who fell through the ice. Soft spots in the ice have been reported and are snow covered, making them impossible to see.

Please play it safe! No ice is safe! 🥶
