The Marcellus Fire Department would like to welcome our two newest members, Taylor Thorpe and Patrick Donegan.

Taylor joined the MFD, following in the footsteps of his father and brother, Matthew Thorpe Jr. and Sr. He has already become a very active member, responding to calls and participating in numerous drills and events.

Patrick became a member of the MFD this evening, and brings prior experience from the Alexandria Bay Fire Department. He has already completed NYS Firefighter 1 and is currently an EMT.

Welcome Taylor and Patrick!

This past Tuesday for weekly drill, Marcellus firefighters trained in hose line advancement, search and forcible entry. Crews were dispatched to multiple mock incidents, forced entry through the front door, then split into teams advancing hand lines into the structure and searching for “victims.”

Yesterday evening at 23:43, Marcellus was dispatched to the Jordan Fire District in the area of Whiting Road and Jordan Road for a large outdoor fire. Marcellus Car 1 (Chief Rothery) and Squad 2 (Asst. Chief Mayers) responded with the UTV.

Sq- 2’s crew utilized the UTV with the brush fire skid unit and worked with firefighters from Jordan, Mottville, Warners-Memphis, Weedsport and Cato to extinguish a large outdoor fire and shuttle water. Crews faced challenges accessing the fire due to the terrain and long distance from the road. Crews operated on scene for over an hour, making multiple trips shuttling water with UTV’s.

Sunday Pancake Breakfast & Tuesday Weekly Drill

This past Sunday, the Marcellus Fire Department held our second Pancake Breakfast of the season. We would like to thank everyone for another great turnout! The MFD had 21 members on hand assisting with the breakfast alongside Boy Scouts from Troop 66, who play a vital role working the breakfasts as well. We hope to see everyone for our final Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, June 6th during Olde Home Days weekend!

Yesterday, our members continued training in extrication with vehicles that were donated to our department. Crews performed stabilization, and door and roof removal techniques using various extrication equipment.

Possible Multi-Occupancy Fire - Marcellus Fire District

Yesterday at 21:51, Marcellus and mutual aid from Fairmount, Skaneateles,Mottville and Howlett Hill were dispatched to a possible apartment fire at Braeside Apartments on South Street. Marcellus Cars 1, 2 & 3 (Chief Rothery, Asst. Chief Mayers & Capt. Mathieson) and Ladder 33 (FF Card) responded. Marcellus C-3 arrived 2 minutes after dispatch to find a light smoke condition with an active alarm and assisted the resident out of the apartment.

The cause was determined to be burned food and Marcellus C-2 held with Ladder 33 only. L-33’s crew checked for extension, which was negative, and ventilated the apartment. Marcellus Ambulance was requested to treat the resident for smoke inhalation.
