This has been a great week of connections, networking, and learning at the Ohio School Safety Center Summit at the Kalahari resort and conference center in Sandusky. In addition to, scheduling and prepping for annual requalification and additional training for school staff.
Long before the Ohio School Safety Center was formed, E.A.S.T. was involved with providing solutions in the K-12 environment. In 2019 the OSSC was born, and since then E.A.S.T. Group became an approved provider of the Alternative Curriculum to serve schools and educators across Ohio. Pre and post HB 99 passing, months of work ensued taking decades of experience and data into creating our curriculum from the ground up to given school staff the best tools to save lives.
Currently in the State of Ohio there are 104 schools that are active with ASSET trained staff under the guidelines of Ohio HB 99. 905 staff members who have stepped up, volunteered, and dedicated their time to train and put their life on the line. Every year there is more interest and more discussion, and this year some of the most interest in schools implementing it in their communities. Administrators, educators, SRO, and others asking the questions on how to get started and what direction to move.
So what sets E.A.S.T. apart from the others out there. Our goal is NOT the minimum standards, but to go above and beyond what is expected on instruction. Where standard may call for 15 minutes on a life saving measure, we go well beyond that into providing dynamic training. Where a video could be utilized, we choose discussion to encourage conversations. Our training is based in the 360-degree environment and is focused on training with stress and decision making under pressure, what will you do when, “Bullets are Inbound?”
This week was a great opportunity to outreach to new schools about not only our OSSC Approved ASSET Alternate Curricula, but also our Staff Empowered to Respond Together (SERT), medical training, and other classes to build their skills and confidence.
Thank you to EVERYONE involved with putting together and organizing events to further our mission to keep kids and staff SAFE!
