Public Safety Update
April 25, 2026
At approximately 12:30 AM, MPD Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle for infractions of speed and defective head lamp, while attempting to make traffic stop a high-speed pursuit ensued in which a male subject nearly struck two Officers with a vehicle. The pursuit lasted approximately 10 minutes, during which the driver operated the vehicle at dangerous speeds and committed multiple traffic violations.
The subject was subsequently charged with:
• Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle
• Reckless Driving
April 25, 2026
At approximately 3:20 AM, MPD Officers viewed a vehicle disregarded a four-way stop sign at Highland Avenue and San Antonio Street at a high rate of speed, Officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop which led to a short vehicle pursuit and ultimately a foot pursuit.
Two male subjects were taken into custody and charged with:
• Evading Arrest or Detention

May 4, 2026
MPD officers were notified of an armed individual in Valentine, Texas, following reports of a home invasion, an attempted entry into Valentine School, and the theft of a motor vehicle. The subject was reported to be traveling toward Marfa with weapons.
MPD officers located the individual on Highway 90 approaching the Marfa city limits, with assistance from partnering agencies, Officers prevented the subject from entering the city. During the ensuing vehicle pursuit, the subject discharged a firearm at law enforcement Officers.
The pursuit was ultimately terminated when Officers eliminated the threat.
The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This incident remains under active investigation by the Texas Rangers.

May 5, 2026
At approximately 4:00 AM, MPD Officers were notified by United States Border Patrol of a vehicle that did not stop at checkpoint entering Marfa Texas. Officers with MPD viewed vehicle disregard stop sign at Highland and San Antonio, MPD Officer attempted to make traffics stop which led to a vehicle pursuit that extended into Alpine Tx. The male subject was apprehended and charged with:
• Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle
Additional Info: The subject was transported to the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office jail facility. While in custody, the individual assaulted a Correctional Officer and an additional PCSO employee.
This incident is currently under investigation by the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers. (Pending additional charges of Assault on Public Servant)
