It's hard to pick any one image that perfectly captures the day when Hurricane Irene wreaked havoc on our region15 years ago, without triggering trauma among viewers. We were there, with numerous brave volunteers, to deal with the ongoing event and the devastating aftermath.

We saw the worst and we saw the best. We continue to remember fondly all of our compassionate community members who worked tirelessly to assist their neighbors.

The Margaretville Fire Department mourns the loss of Past Chief, Scott Gavette. Chief Gavette served our department for over 28 years. Our deepest sympathy to his family, he will be greatly missed.

Catskills Folk Connection proudly presents a Traditional Square Dance featuring John Jacobson and Friends. Featuring John Jacobson calling, Ira McIntosh on guitar, and Zack Baldwin-Way on mandolin.

The square dances will include tunes from the repertoire of the late, legendary fiddler and caller Hilton Kelly and his band the Sidekicks. Both beginning and experienced dancers are welcome, and all dances will be taught. In addition to squares, John Jacobson will be performing some of his country songs between sets for couples dancing.

Suggested donation is $10 for adults, with children 12 and under free. There will be refreshments and door prizes!

Get ready for a night of great music, camaraderie, and fun at our second dance of the season!

Saturday, August 8, 7-10 p.m. at the Margaretville Fire Hall.

..FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Portions of central New York, including...Delaware (County)

* WHEN...Through Wednesday evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Multiple rounds of showers and storms will continue to move over the area through Wednesday. Rainfall rates could exceed 1-2 inches per hour with the heaviest downpours.

Even though this area has been somewhat dry recently, multiple
rounds of heavy downpours could cause urban flash flooding and/or small streams and creeks to flow out of their banks. Two day rainfall totals are expected to be in the 2-3 inch range, with 3-6 inches possible in portions of the Catskills if upslope enhancement matches up with storms producing heavy downpours.
